...HELP...how do I put on the belt???
So I was driving home 1 hr ago from work, and noticed my power steering was completely down. I had just topped it off with power steering fluid cause the day before I changed the hose from the reservoir. So the power steering was down, battery light came and stayed on, and car was over heating. I looked it up on google and they said its probably a belt. So I went to my car and wallah!! The belt was basically completly off..the HUGE belt that is right in the front behind the radiator.....anywayssss I just wanna know how I can put the belt back on...its still in tact.. I have to be at work tommorow at 6am...hopefully I can dix it tonight....thanx
Easiest way would be to look for a diagram in the service manual which you can find on here. Then adjust the alternator and have that pushed all the way into the engine. Put on the belt and then adjust the alternator back out until the belt is tight. It's harder than it sounds, I had to do it for a friend on his MR2, in the dark.

You just relieve the tension on the tensioner pulley with a 17 mm socket and pull handle on the extruded boss on the tensioner assembly, put the belt on according to the diagram, then release the tension. ( this is for an N/A engine, I think the SRT6 is different )
The belt came off for a reason, this hardly EVER happens by itself.
It is usually due to fluid on the belt.
Clean up the belt and all the pulleys before reinstalling it.

YOU DO NOT 'ADJUST' THE ALTERNATOR, IT HAS NO ADJUSTMENT.

Check for oil leak at top of oil filter. If it is coming from there it is install incorrectly. The "O" rings were installed wrong probably. You can find a " Sticky" on the Forum front page.

You have to move the belt tensioner in toward the center of the car, a 17mm socket on a long extension should do it.
I'm thinking you had oil from the power steering pump on the belt, why did you replace the hose though? Why would it jump off, slip yes but to come off.

My bad.. for some silly reason I thought a belt diagram was what he needed.. since they don't pass them out at Gumball Rallies..
We never did hear what position he finished in, but I guess that if you do not show up at the start line you do not even have the chance of finishing last.

Just a helpful note :
Put the belt properly on all the pulleys except #4, then use the 17 mm socket/pull bar on the tensioner pulley ( #7 ) to allow you to lift the belt onto #4.
