Default Whirring noise when accelerator is pressed

Hi does anyone know why my 2005 Crossfire coupe auto has started making a whirring noise when I press the accelerator?
it only lasts for about two seconds and sounds like an electric motor moving or opening something
many thanks

Is this from the start? At speed? If at speed what speed? What area do you think is coming from?

It does it every time you press the accelerator at any speed and it sounds like it’s just in front of the driver either behind the dashboard or behind the bulkhead on the engine side.

Maybe a pulley bearing I put a link above maybe it will help.

Sounds like another idler pulley or tensioner pulley about to fail. Raise the hood and have someone rev the engine and see if you hear it coming from the front of the engine, if so, I'd change both items (they are super easy to change and are rather inexpensive).

Thanks for the replies. I don't think it's a bearing because revving the engine doesn't make it happen. It makes the noise when starting up from cold and when the car is in gear and the engine is put under load, if you take your foot off the accelerator the noise stops. It sounds like an electric motor, similar to a fuel pump noise but it's under the bonnet somewhere.

Does it make the noise if you load the engine while standing still(power braking)? Be careful, no need to start a burnout.

No it doesn't seem to do it unless the car is being driven on the road or when the engine is started from cold, perhaps the throttle isn't open enough unless the car is accelerating.

So you've checked the pulleys, and performed the power braking procedure? No drivability problem other than the "whirring" noise? Have you checked all the air intake connections? Does the noise go away after it comes up to operating temp.? Maybe slight exhaust leak that goes away when it expands after heating up? Maybe we could hear a recording of it? Just a guessing game here now.

Would it be possible to get someone to start the car and with the hood up and you standing there you might locate the area the noise comes from?

The problem got worse so I took the car to the garage, the noise was coming from the auto transmission because coolant had leaked into the trans fluid. The auto trans fluid was changed and the problem fixed but the radiator needs to be replaced to stop it happening again so the car is off the road until then to prevent any further leakage. One job leads to another!

Thanks for following up. Do you have the Part number for the radiator you require if not reach out.

Thanks for everyone’s help, I had a new radiator fitted but it looks like the damage is already done because after about ten miles on the new radiator the transmission is slipping so badly that the car won’t set off. Looks like I need a new gearbox. A friend who has a ramp said he would fit another box for me if I could get the instructions, so if anyone has any that would be great.
