Smile Oil quanity

Butch here, I have a 2005 Crossfire convertible limited. M y question is the manual states 8.5 qts. however, when 8.5 is put in with filter change, I get an OIL indicator with an arrow pointing up. Have to suck out about 1 1/2 quarts.

Overfilling will not be good for this engine. I change my oil on a level slab using a 'TOPSIDER" having a flexible tube inserted into the oil dipstick tube (bottomed out) until it is mostly all gone. I only use 8 quarts Mobil1 0W40. First, I take the oil filter out before sucking out the oil, then 8 quarts are poured into the large filter opening until only 8 quarts are in. I place a new filter onto the oil filter cap (don't forget the new 'O' rings) and tighten to specifications. When you change the filter, make sure you use new 'O' rings included with the filter. The large cap 'O' ring goes in the second slot (the first one is right under the lip of the cap), IF you place the large 'O' ring in the wrong slot, it'll eventually leak all over the engine bay. Run the engine for a few to circulate the oil (maybe 30 seconds?), then shut it down and manually check the level. There has been a number of ppl who overfilled the oil and wound up with a stuck oil level sensor (located in a very hard place to get, the inside of the space above the oil pan). There is a LARGE help/tutorial document collection on this site, it also has the complete (if you can call it complete) service manual set available in .pdf format, for FREE! Good luck and make sure you get that extra oil out QUICKLY.

Ya never really need to put in 8.5 quarts
No matter how you change the oil ya never drain or suck it all out therefore 8 quarts will be all you should put back in
Even a little short of 8 quarts should put you close to full
Its a lot easier to add a bit more than need to drain some out

Here is a PDF of the entire procedure >>>

That seems excessive, I would guess you are not removing enough oil initially. Which method of oil removal are you using?
I use the vacuum level, remove as much as I can one evening and let it drip into the oil pan overnight, it is surprising how much oil I can get out the next morning. I can put in 8 litres, the oil level will be 1/16” over the full mark, but not enough to worry about. I found this out when I had 8 one litre bottles.
I have the car on the flat with 2 x 4s under the driver side wheels.
