UPsolute Chip Tuning Crossfire Group Buy!
Greetings Crossfire Owners!
I'm the New England Region representative for UPsolute Chip Tuning.
As a new visitor to your site, I figured the best way to introduce myself was to come offering gifts...
I'm posting today to gauge interest in a group buy for UPsolute chip tuning for the Crossfire, I can offer a very nice savings if there are 10 or more interested parties. The group buy would be handled through me, for installation locally in Northbridge, MA, USA 01534, or via USPS insured Express mail.
The group buy price would be just $350, including installation labor or insured return express shipping to lower-48 states. This is a $75 discount off of our regular price!
If you are interested, please start a list in this thread, or send me an email at sramsey@upsolute.com. I require a deposit of $100 to hold your place on the group buy. This can be done via check or PayPal. The balance will be paid at time of install or enclosed with your ECU if you mail it to me. Cash or check is preferred. I can accept MC/VISA using PayPal, but there is a 3% fee for this. PayPal may be used without fees for the deposit only.
IMPORTANT: The deposit is refundable if less than 10 sign up and the group buy does not happen. If 10 or more commit, the deposit is not refundable or transferable.
The group buy period begins today March 2, 2006, and runs through March 31, 2006. Once 10 have committed with deposit, I will begin to schedule the installations. If the 10 required are not met by March 31, 2006, the offer will end and deposits will be refunded.
In the list, I would like:
Screen-name Year engine/transmission DC/MB ECU part number Bosch ECU part number
Tuning notes:
We tune the Crossfire just like we tune Mercedes, as a custom/semi-custom chip. I perform a readout of each ECU's stock code. I have a database of files organized by the Bosch ECU number. If there is a match in the file's embedded ECU numbers *AND* stock checksum, then I can install the corresponding existing tuned file. Otherwise, the stock file gets sent electronically to our experts at HQ in Austria where they analyze the maps and apply the tuning parameters, creating a new tuned file based on your exact stock code. We do this to ensure the chip-tuned file is built from the OEM code used in your exact car. Occasionally the code in the ECU does not match the label on the ECU…with our method we ensure 100% compatibility.
93 octane is recommended for best performance, 91 min.
About me:
I joined UPsolute in October of 2003. I'm a Hardware Engineer (BS-EE, Penn State, 1995) and "car nut". I use safe, professional ECU re-work tools and methods to install your new tuning. The only services I offer are ECU re-work.
About UPsolute:
UPsolute has been in the US since 2000, and even longer in Europe. HQ is located in Austria, having recently completed a major expansion and construction of a new state-of the art tuning, installation and dyno facility.

All of our tuning files are developed on-site at HQ using appropriate-market OEM code. With many years of experience working with the MB engines and control systems in your Crossfire, you can be assured of a quality tune!

Thanks for the info.
You mentioned the new facility in Austria had a dyno. Can you provide a before and after chart for the Crossfire/Mercedes 320 engine? All I ever found on the UpSolute website was a HP gain without anything to show proof of the added gain.
Thanks

bobs... I know you are very knowledgeable about cars and are interested in see the dyno readouts as I am, along with many others here. Rest assured tho, whatever the "real" gain, I have noticed a seat-of-the-pants improvement since having my car chipped by UpSolute and using the K&N filters.

Sounds like a good deal Scott, but not much use to me in the UK unfortunately. Like bobs and ben47 I'd be very interested to see some graphs. 20hp gain (according to the Upsolute website) seems a bit optimistic to me by just optimizing the fuelling/ignition maps. But if you can prove me wrong then I might follow this up through the two UK distributors, although their websites do not list a Crossfire application.

It shows a 20 HP gain from 218 to 238 for both cars (which is wrong, it should be 215). It kind of makes you wonder about the accuracy of the rest of their numbers.

I don't doubt for a minute that there is a gain and that general 'drivability is improved but I would be surprised at 20 HP. Its quite possible to get a 'seat of the pants' impression of more power just by altering the way the power is delivered for instance the altering the relationship between the throttle response to actual pedal movement can make a car feel very different without actually producing any more power. Like I said, I am not doubting any gains but interested to know what they actually are.

i would be interested but, if you could take care of me at the norman, oklahoma store.

I'll see if I can track down some plots.
Gary, our rep. in Toronto is looking to get some of these cars on the rollers to test as well. There is a dyno facility near me: http://www.nedyno.com if there is anyone who would like to test.
I have dyno-tested some other MB models (like the 2.3l kompressors) and we have seen about 15-16 WHP gains from just the chip/93 octane, this even on the advanced Siemens ECUs in those cars.
I used http://www.onlineconversion.com to verify some of the numbers...
215 horsepower [international] = 217.981 977 604 horsepower [metric]
The most common measurement is to look at the kW...160 kw rated...this converts to 214.5 HP using 746 watts/HP. The website is based out of Austria so there are some slight variations in the numbers.
jp2005 I can check with the rep out there and see if he wants to participate.
The SRT-6 should be tuneable as well...have a look at the SLK320 AMG:
http://www.upsolute.com/db/new/daten...arke=14&ID=700
Interesting that this is rated at a much higher stock level...perhaps there is more to be had?
The rated gains are similar because we are modifying the same parameters as the non-boosted cars ie timing, fueling, load tables, etc... Adding a pulley kit may be possible to increase airflow. Typically the magic numbers on these superchargers are 10 psi and 15k rpm...ie the pulleys must be sized to run 10 psi or less and not exceed 15k rpm at the kompressor shaft. I don't have any data on the stock pulleys nor do we sell them.

Thanks for the update Scott. I thought the power figures may have been to do with the imperial/metric conversion. That's gotta be the cheapest way to get an extra 3 hp.
Look forward to the graphs.

Found this thread with an independent review and accelerometer test...actual numbers might be debatable with these devices but assuming the same calcs were used they are accurate at showing gains/losses. Anyway a piece of data!
