Lights in rocker panels
Does anyone know if there is room behind the rocker panels to put an LED light such as the license plate light under the doors that light up when you unlock the door, coming on with the interior lights? A neat feature I think when used at night.
They would come on when you unlocked the doors, opened the doors from inside etc. They would need to be pretty thin, I think you could thin the license plate lights by modifying the terminals.

Dave, if the LED LP lights won't fit, you could put a strip of LED lights on the outside surface of the trim panel, there's a linear indentation where the fasteners are. I think an LED strip would be thin enough to go under the door as well.
I have some about 6” long x 3/4” wide that say they are 100% waterproof and stick on with 3M double sided tape, maybe they might do with a bit more waterproofing.. I had forgot I had them till you mentioned them.
A trick to find the gap between doors and door jams, or air cleaner box and hood, is to use Silly Putty on one surface with the other side of the putty covered with plastic wrap. Shut the door or hood and it will squash the putty to the thickness of the gap. The plastic wrap stops the putty from sticking on the surface on that side.

I prefer the license plate light as I think the stick on ones are a bit tacky.

I would mount them on the bottom of the door jams. Mounted on the rockers, too much crap from the road will get on them, not to mention driving water from the front wheels when it is raining.
That is a fair option but I would like to see the puddle when I unlock the door not open it and find I am standing in one.
I'm with you, just as soon they came on before I got there and lit up underneath.

I have them for the GLK, they simply replace the OEM ones in the doors.

Run wires from inside the car connected to a circuit that becomes live with the doors open, as shown here, CLICK. Then run the wire forward under the carpet and come up and over the sill where it is covered by the sill cap which has CROSSFIRE embossed on it. Run it along the side of the sill and put the wires through the gap at the forward edge of the rocker cover.
There may be better ways to run the wires upon more thought.
After all how hard could it be?
