Are you willing to move to a new site?
With the continued issues that we are having with this site, and the lack of response from the current site owner, i would like to hear your thoughts.
I could acquire a domain name, register it, purchase a 3rd party forum application, and find a hosting provider to host the new site. The downside would be that we would loose all information that has been posted. The upside would be that we would have a site owned by a CrossFire owner that is active in this community. Sometimes you have to take a step back to be able to move forward. In our current state, the site will not allow new members to join the site. We cannot post pictures within the site. We cannot change our avatars, and the email notification system is acting buggy. I personally have stored a wealth of information on my computer from posts on this site. I download how-tos even if I do not need them now. I keep them in case this site goes away for some reason, and I need them in the future. I know many others have as well. So, I am not too concerned with loosing a lot of historical knowledge from this site. Additionally, we have plenty of members here that the majority of the information came from.
I would be willing to bear the expense of setting us up with a new site if there is sufficient interest in doing so. We could set up an advisory committee of senior members to insure that this site is focused on the best interest of the community. We could set up polls to vote for moderators that we feel would be fair to this group. Foremost, I want to ensure that this forum is independent of CICCI. I am a member of CICCI, but I strongly believe that each venue has its own purpose, and one should not be controlled by the other. I do think that the public community and CICCI can collaborate to achieve certain things, but one should not be the arm of the other.
Ok, lets see where the interest lies.
Thanks Bob

I agree, and it is a quandary. It would be nice if we could get him to turn the site over to someone that is willing to actively run it, but it does not look promising. This has been going on for several months now. There does not seem to be a perfect solution, or anything than comes close to one.
Thanks
Thanks
I already have the answer, and I put it out a while ago. Move to the exixting ciccs site or however it is spelled.
We have support, there are many there already, this would by just moving the data base to an existing crossfire site --------------whats not to like. Our ARC is leaking and its time to release the dove and find the dry land so to speak and flourish. It is supported and working and I dont have any vested interest in promoting it but it is up and saves creating another site, we have the wheel, dont regenerate another one.
What say to the thought??????????????????

WAIT Gee thats more than 4 hours, should I call the Dr.?

I may be wrong, but I believe the biggest contributors are still here. The info is locked in their brain, and still obtainable. It may be a good time to purg the useless info. It would be a clean slate so to speak. I haven't given up on this site, but, I wouldn't be against seeing another site up and running as well. I sure like the info on here as well as the fun and camradery. What I don't like is the bs from time to time...but you will have that, so I ignore it, lol, that feature works very well btw....so Bob, I'm in...
Woody, the problem with your plan is that we do not own the database this information is stored in. It is not as simple as moving the data to the CICCI site. Julian owns this site, and the data it contains. If it were that simple, we could also move the data to a new site, and the transition could be semi transparent to the users.
Did I miss something?
A prime motivation of CICCI was tht they would own the contentorthis site.
Is or is not that the case?
If it is,Woody has the answe and his plan would work.
IF not, I have to question the purpose of CICCI.
No offense guys atCICCI but what other purpose does that organization provide that cannot be found here for free? For the record, I am a sponsor here and a Charter member, recently renewed, at CICCI. So, independantly is my wife Cathy.
We support both of the clubs. But, this brings into question the value of our contribution to either.

Franc, I cannot speak for CICCI as I am just a member. I am not a CICCI officer. I can tell you that this site is registered and owned by Julian. What agreements that Julian has with CICCI regarding the content of this site I am not privy to. When you make a contribution to this site or pay for the ability to be a sponsor on this site, you are paying Julian. The proceeds of this site are revenues for Julian not CICCI.
I will reiterate... I do not know if CICCI has any agreements with Julian or not, but in the absence of an agreement, Julian would have no incentive to hand over the data to this site. As I have stated in other threads, this is a business venture for Julian. To give CICCI the data would be paramount to giving his business venture to CICCI for free.
If I am over stepping my bounds here, someone let me know. I am just trying to look out for the prolonged best interest of this community.

It's funny this thread came up. Some of my posts have not been showing up, pics are now impossible. Enoughs enough, the forum owner is the fault of it's own demise. Even if Julian came running back promising to fix the problems the damage is done. People including myself are visiting here less an less because off all the crap. It's time to move on and start over, bring the excitment back. End rant sorry for the iPhone post, just wanted to say I want something new that works and is run as well as mbworld. If you build it they will come. Let the new site be strictly Cars no political crap just cars.

I am not suggesting that it would happen, but what if Julian's priorities changed to the point that he decides to just pull the plug on this site. That would be the end with no plan for an alternative. He has not responded to the moderators of this site for several months now. No one has heard from him that I am aware of. This does not bode well for us. We have serious problems with the functionality of this site, and he is totally unresponsive to our issues.

The Political, the General, the Other Vehicles, bring interests that round out our undertanding of each other. That is why it works. And lately, the General and the Political forums have enjoyed the hightest traffic.
No, we need this just as it is only working like it is supposed too.
NOTE TO JULIAN. Your product is losing it's appeal. I am amoung many who have supported it with hard cash. To be honest, the product has degraded to the point we are not getting value.
So, given the state of the economy, the stae of this site and the likelyhood it will soon be abandoned by the consumer,( just like what happened when Diamler abandoned our cars), what do you want for it?

Whatever the decision I would hope the information, in particular the first Crossfires Across America meet, remain accessible without a fee to all those members who have signed up.
Here's another turd in the punch bowl...
I say we bombard Julian with calls, emails, etc. Then, buy this site (like Franc said, at a bargain) and purge some of the content, like any thread with no traffic in three calendar years, members that haven't logged in over the past year, etc.
This site is like my Buick: when everything works, it runs beautifully and it's the cheapest fun under the sun.
Right now, this site is like my Buick the OTHER 60% of the time... buggy, sporadic, unreliable, and loaded with electrical gremlins.
We need to put control of this site back into the hands of ACTIVE admins that actually own a Crossfire. Even better, Admins that are reachable.
Then we can fix the few issues and move along. Make photos available again, and allow new members. This site is VERY effective and I love the layout. It just needs new spark plugs, and the oil filter is clogged.
Don't burn the car because you can't afford an oil change... my $.02

I can appreciate your point on this JHM2K, and I would prefer that Julian either fix this site and become responsive to our needs, or make an offer to turn over or sell this site to an interested party. I challenged Julian to do this in another thread. If Julian continues to be unresponsive to this group, we have to do something.
As a group, we should explore all options available to us. Quite frankly, I am a bit surprised by the pole results so far with the percentage of users that are unaware that there is a problem with the forum.

Somehow the good stuff needs to be retained.
