Another "Pizza" story
As if that whole "Pizza and Hope" thing wasn't enough... (and I guess I am still messed up in the head over it)
So, last Saturday, I was changing oil in the Crossfire, pickup, lawn mower and lawn vac. I got the car done, and as I started the truck "Don" (my illegal CBer-neighbor, nice guy, really good as a neighbor) came over to yak. Well, I KNEW I was being distracted and I KNEW I should sit down and just talk to him, but nnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo- I had to keep working.
I crawled under the truck, took the plug out and drained the oil. I then yanked off the old filter and put the new one on. I moved the drain pan outta the way and put the used oil in a jug.
I then put in 5 quarts of new oil. (Get the idea -never put the plug back in). I didn't see it, but I now have 5 quarts of oil in the lawn. Well, Don eventually went home and I did the mower and vac.
Got a shower. Dressed. Then thought I'd go to Wendy's, a mile away, to get something to eat.
You guessed it, took the truck. Got about 3/4 miles down the road when the engine had enough. Truck has no idiot light, just a stupid needle that I never notice. And I never heard the rods until seconds before the end ... pushed the clutch in and the engine died. It never seized up, but it refused to restart. I theorize that either all the valve train parts are ruined or the rings and cylinders are shot - meaning there is no compression to support firing.
I'v been changing oil in cars LITERALLY since two years before I started to drive (age 15). NEVER have I done something like this. The truck was a 98, had 170,000 on it. A/C and everything else worked very well. Engine was still solid.
This is just not gonna be my year. I'm almost afraid to drive the car now!

Nothing here....literally, the plug to this story is gone...anybody got a plug for this story???
Sorry Pizzaguy, that really sucks....or drains your high pressure....come on everybody start plugging away.

3/4 s of a mile, would have heated up the motor, piston, rings, bearings enough to seize...temp go down, they will move again...if you didn't spin a rod bearing, or break a ring...you might just luck out...but someone needs to drop the pan, to look at rod bearings...I wouldn't worry about the rings right now...but, no it wouldn't start while seized...now, get your head up and move on...**** happens my friend....women come and go, and engine's blow, but it's your friends who will always know...**** happens....lol
But doc, it NEVER seized up. Cranked over with the starter fine. Tried to fire once or twice, so the plugs are firing.
Ok, I'll have it towed to the shop and let them evaluate it. I was just thinking there was no reason to .... expected the valve train and / or rings have been destroyed enough that it won't run without real work.
Put oil in it when the got it back to the house, cranked and cranked but only a sput once or twice as it turned over. I REALLY think it's shot.

You had water, the 3/4 mile is nothing, see the oil commercials.
Suggest that the motor needs the compression checked first.
That should get you going. If you have fuel and spark it aughta make noise, the lifters are without oil and collapsed, thus no valve action.
Crank for 30 seconds and wait 60, repeat and it ill start up. Woody

It kinda sputted at me 2-3 times, only at the very first start of the 30 seconds, maybe on the 3rd and 4th try.
Sure spins over well... it didn't seize up.
I know Deb. And thanks.
Anyway, time to get on my elliptical and stride my way to a higher HDL... (doc has agreed I don't need Lipitor after all!)

What kind of Doctor would tell you you don't need liquor?
Oh! Lipitor.
Nevermind!

I still think either rings and/or valves are shot but I have several guys telling me it's gonna run again. This has turned into a challenge and I kinda like challenges... gonna play around iwth it tonight/tomorrow and see where I get.

Good luck with getting her to run again!
