Take a moment today to think of all the lives lost on this day and their families. I will never forget how I felt that morning, driving home from working the overnight shift and looking to my left to see smoke rising from the Manhattan sky line. We will never forget.

I'll never forget, either. Here I am, in Georgia, and I found out two or three days later that I had a "connection" to the people in that building. The husband of the daughter of my longest-time friend back in Michigan was in the elevator of the second tower to be hit when the first tower was hit.

He had come there to get a signature on some papers and was already leaving when the first plane hit.

He, of course, didn't really know what had happened, said he'd been told a jet went out of control and hit the building. In any event, he headed on to his office (which is in New Jersey, I believe).

Tom said his son-in-law had almost made it, or JUST made it, to his car when the second plane hit.

I bet most of us have SOME distant connection to SOMEONE who was in one of those buildings, or often visited those buildings.

A friend in Scotland sent THESPACEPORT.US this:

America Attacked 9 1 1

A REFLECTION

The sky so blue gave no hint that autumn morn
That an act so vile could e’er be born
It stills your heart and tears fill your eyes
For so many were ne’er able to say their good-byes

Yet with hearts so heavy and full of sorrow
Was born a vision of a new tomorrow
And although the years may have passed since then
Yet not forgotten each one of them

The seasons, they keep passing year by year
Yet ne’er a man can hide a tear
For the awful scenes our memories hold
And the gratitude for the rescuers bold

Let mankind keep the gift of freedom dearly
Foremost in mind and hearts so clearly
That those who perished died not in vain
They gave us new hope despite the pain

Let us all take much heart and be courageous
From those who cannot say it for us
Defend the principles of justice and mercy
Not shown by those who killed so freely

The sky so blue gave no hint that autumn morn
That an act so vile could e’er be born
It stills your heart and tears fill your eyes
For so many were ne’er able to say their good-byes
