Still, since I'm a big fan of small hatchbacks, I'm thinking my next daily driver may well be a VW Golf TDI (the Crossfire is my toy, and will remain so for many, many years to come).

Average price of regular gas, as of today (3/28/2011) in Los Angeles County, CA = $4.04/gal, in Orange County, CA = $4.03 and it is going up quickly. I honestly don't believe it's going to get a whole lot better, even in the long term. Yes, it will peak at some point well above $4.00 and eventually drop back down to perhaps as low as the high $3/gallon range. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part, so feel free to quote me in a future post and point out how little I actually know!!!

Cailfornia is a foreign Country to the midwest. Your gas prices are 20% higher most of the time. Except in San Diego where normal rules about most anything don't seem to apply.
But, it is a most beautiful place with wonderful folks. I always have a good time there.

BTW, Regular gas that day was $3.59 per Gal. Diesel was $3.99
I believe today it is $3.69 to $3.79 per Gal in So Il.
Diesel and Premium each run about the same here. I paid $ 3.69 at the QT last Sunday night for regular.
Fuels will go up and down as market forces effect them. Japan's shut down has flooded the world with crude.Temporarily.
Just sayin.

It is really hard to tell overall trends from only local area observations.
Some price increases/decreases have to do with distribution issues.
Best guy on the forum to explain it is KURTS. He is sorta inside the game and, unlike the agenda driven media, always tells it straight.

Gas has sort of settled down here in SC. Prices appear to have held steady (for the last 10 days) around the $3.39-$3.49 for Unleaded Regular. Typically, it's $0.10 a gallon more for Unleaded Plus and another $0.10 a gallon for Unleaded Premium.
I think we will continue to see high spikes in gas prices until US prices "normalize" with the rest of the world, regardless of the amount we consume, to a price of $5/gallon. It may take another couple of years, but that is where we are heading.
Just like now, it will jump way up, but never go back down to where it was previously..........
