Likely just "hidden" as Gary stated earlier.

Note your post counts remained intact.

I did see where Julian hopped on the site briefly, and posted traffic statistics but that's it.

Apparently that's when the plug was pulled.

Again, life goes on for me. The friends I made will transcend any forum. The ones who made themselves enemies wouldn't be satisfied if you hung them with a new rope, and no amount of moderation will alleviate the bickering.

For the record, I have only sent ONE pm to a mod, ever. And that was to alert him of another isolated issue where a local member literally threatened to pull a gun on another member. That was in the Coupe section, no politics involved. Apparently immaturity happens in all areas of life, who knew.

But I've never, ever bugged a mod for a political hissy fit. I'm a Christian, I'm quite used to "peaceful" Liberals telling me where to shove it. If the forum was still live, I'd recommend our fine forum members do a search of "CCCP" and formulate your own opinions based on the dialogue between the right and left. It would paint a clear enough picture. Make sure no children are reading...

Again, hating someone is like swallowing the poison and hoping the other person will die. It's their salvation they're squandering, not mine. I have my peace.

Carry on.

Why don't you go start your own forum with those rules? Web hosting can be had cheaply and the forum software is free.

You always chided me to do more research.
You claimed the politics secton wasn't improtant to you. So I researched exactly how unimportant it was by your behaviorand what section was your favorite. Found you spent better than 95% of your time there.
at onepoint over 500 consequtive posts without a contribution anywhere else.

There is is name for that but you might consider it a personal attack.

And it wold seem you cannot even accept a compliment without getting snarky as well.

Another observation -- the biggest opponents of the political section were often the biggest contributors.

I never quite understood that. If you hate something, you generally abstain from it. Could it be the narcissism of the poster that prevents him from allowing dialogue to take place without his contribution, no matter how much he hates the place in which he is playing? Is that poster simply a victim of his own competitive nature, unable to pass by a basketball court without attempting a dunk, even though he hates basketball and is too short to make a dunk?

I hate eggplant. But if every time you ran into me in the grocery store, and you saw my basket overflowing with eggplant, what lasting impression would you walk away with?

For me, the politics section was a vice. While I enjoyed it, it wasn't healthy.

It's a good thing the mods frown on those.

I can. Thank you for your generous assessment. I've enjoyed reading your posts, too.

Maybe we should start a"Hobby" forum – Perhaps it can assist some Crossfire owners find new and exciting directions to harness their obsessive behavior?

Maybe. Like rush, I thought it somehow unfair to let the politics section of the forum become overly infested with conservatives.

again, it's not hard to see the enormous interest in this subsection. Look at the number of views, the number of posts, and then the number of individual people who've actually posted. Interesting that one side of the house is portraying themselves as victims and defenders of the realm, yet it was their very posts that came to this. i am definately missing something here. Oh, shoot, and we're back to parsing again.

You could be in charge of a "Stock Market Investing as a Hobby" section to tell us about all your slow, steady investment gains of the past year.

I embrace what I believe in and feel no compulsion to resist or vanquish.

How is it that those, who so adamantly protest the existence of something, can be so intensely involved in participating in it?

Since the definition of obsessive behavior is continually repeating something that you want to stop, am I to understand you are talking about yourself and others here who object to the existence of a political thread, but cannot resist the temptation to participate in it?

Perhaps a "Hobby" section would be good you.

I'm going to point out that this thread seems like it is quickly heading down the same road that got the Politics forum deleted. I said before and now again that I'm not happy about losing it but I do understand why it it was deleted; I'm also not going to cry if it doesn't come back. Too often the conversations went around in circles and as it did the posts became shallower and more barbs were thrown back and forth. There was a conservative "gang" mentality that was evident in some threads and I do believe that needed to stop. Other people posted things that were downright ludicrous and only meant to incite (both sides were guilty of this). My point is that if we can't calmly discuss the merits of having a politics forum then we shouldn't hold any hope of getting it back.

Thanks for the kind words.

Though not posting like a crack ho with free wi-fi hiding behind a dumpster, I think I've been a member here longer than just about anyone posting in this thread.

That said, I'm somewhat disappointed that forum ownership/moderators would close a section of the forum each time there is caterwauling. To my knowledge no one has been physically harmed in the political forum. And, everyone is responsible for their comments. If someone were that threatened, why not file a police report? The police supposedly take cyber-bullying seriously.

Otherwise, those complaining about the political forum are pretty much a bunch a whiners. Personally, I've avoided much of the political cheerleading and concentrated more on economics and exactly why both sides are equally causing destruction. I would have to ask the question as to whether bigotry is in fact the motivation of the complainers. Statistically, at least 60% of Crossfire owners would choose the Republican party based on sports car ownership data, so it's no surprise the forum leaned right. But to end it on that basis?

Actually, I have a better idea:

Close the entire forum with the exception of those that are not objectionable to anyone. Lock the Coupe, SRT, and Convertible topics because there is virtually no posts that haven't been discussed already. Simply lock those topics and most of the others, and allow search function only. Leave only the "Meets" topic open as way for those that wish to socialize in person to do so. That would make the mods jobs so much easier and not jeopardize the interaction of the remaining "community".

This would make it similar to the .net site where the main activity happens on the hook up forum which enables the six or seven (maybe?) active members there to get together to bad mouth the .org site. LOL

Great idea BrianBrave, I think anything that broadens the areas of interest and brings more people to the forum is a much better idea than constricting it and driving people away. I come in every day to read the political section and them browse the rest of the areas for things that interest me. My guess would be that with people that make 95% of their post there, I am not alone in this.

Dear Julian:

Based upon what I've read, closing the Politics Forum would generally drive away several long-time sponsors and the majority of the senior crowd. As mentioned above, the remains of the site, after time, would disintegrate into a mere Crossfire information archive for the searching pleasure of the occasional newbie.

The view rate just today of this particular thread demonstrates the the value of the Politics Forum to the site business plan, if one exists.

The rules of engagement and conduct among gentlemen are obvious, but are also available in written form for the less inclined in the Politics Forum Sticky. What seems to be lacking (from what we read) is consistent, objective monitoring of the sub-forum. And given the apparent value of the Politics Forum, a focused effort to police the site would appear to be cost-effective time well spent, again in appreciation of the business plan.

Just have a look at the other more "sanitized" Crossfire sites on the web. Ho hum. The extended family you have here is rare and quite special. And politics plays a part in it. A uniquely large part.

With all respect,

Very good post Kane.

For me, at this time, i will be spending the next four days hooked up with likeminded friends at the Dragon.

Julian and CO have some time thento sort things out.

We shall see what shakes from this "adjustmet' to the Forum and make decisions later.

Itsky just passed by on the Highway headed for Mount Vernon Il. Crumpy ad i hook up with them in the morning and then JaneBridges an hour later.

Thursday nite, some gladhanding with friends who need no moderators to have respectful conversations about anything we wish.

You guys, especially those of you who do not participate in such face to face GTG's, can just stew here in your bile.
