What if people toss money at this, and then it never pans out? That is why I am not taking any orders until I get at least one completed.

The point is you stick at it till it does pan out, or you refund people there money and you take the hit for saying you can do it and didn't. It has worked so for the pillar group buy, people took a chance now they will get it at cost minus all the labor, this one might be a little more intensive some of the money might have to go to labor but those on the group buy would get charged next to nothing.

anyone know a way around the mercedes benz keys to pull out the radio, I really dont want to wait for them on ebay.

I am not sure mine is going to turn out perfectly. That is why I used a donor console panel, so if it turns out badly, my car still has the original.

Perhaps when this one is done, I'll post pictures, and if someone likes it, I'll make another and another and another. I'm just not nearly sure enough to let anyone invest in it yet.

It should be structured just like the pillar project - whoever wants it bad enough throws up some money. Not the full cost of the finished product, but enough to make 1 (say $50 depending on how many people throw). From there, the original deposit (if any is left) is taken off the per unit price and a discount is given to those who supplied the funds to get the first one made.

No... but if you get 10 people to throw up $50, thats $500 to make the first one. From there, the learning curve should take effect, and the next couple should cost much less and take much less time to build.

Say they decide to sell them for $350... the group might get them for $275 (the $50 deposit + a $25 discount...all hypothetical amounts)

So what you are saying is that if you throw $50 at it up front, you will save $25 when they learn how to mass-produce them?

Dude, I said all those numbers were hypothetical. That is just an example of how I would structure the deal. I'm not designing them, selling them or setting the price.

Just chill out and wait until it goes down.

I'm definitely in so keep me informed via PM if you have to. I would like to sell my KVT-M700 which matches the dash perfectly and works great but need something that I don't have to slide out screen covering my climate control. I wonder if anybody makes a silver double din any more. Hmmmmmmmmm

Good work guys! Keep it up.

build cost would include another console turn around time would be as long as it takes to ship, I am thinking a deposit set up till I receive your console then ship out one finished, just do one at a time kinda deal. I will start with mine buy another start with that, Use RC's just bust them out and then you guys send us your console for a double din console.

Here is the problem right here so far i think it is impossible to remanufacturer these clips for less then $4k lol. And the piece is sonic fused together, I cant just pull the clips off and use them, I would have to custom make each piece from the orginal Costly and Lots of hours, I cant do this one for free, although I wouldn't charge anywhere around 80 dollars an hour....

Second when you received the piece you may have to do some of your own lining up of the 2 din player and the controls behind the panel. There is no way this piece can support a double din player with out also being supported by the dash, kinda like the stock system. Unless we move the controls to where the radio is now, which I think then the player would be too low and unless really.

anyway here is the part number for those who want to do the hunting and see what the replacement cost. A1936801407
