Thumbs down Overpriced: Replacing Cupholder with Storage Bin

Hi Gang

I’m the proud owner of Crossfire Limited with a broken cup holder, so I thought, hey! , Chrysler is in trouble, shutting down assy plants for 30-60 days, why not pitch in and buy that storage bin replacement form a dealer? So I went to Palace Chrysler on Auburn Hills, MI. to get one. BIG mistake.

For those of you not familiar with that component, the Storage Bin Replacement is an ABS ,single cavity-mold injected plastic part with no grain that may cost around a buck to produce and sits in the hole left by the useless cup holder….so Chrysler can charge you 52 usd. In my book that’s overpriced.

On top of that when you present your points to the parts manager:

a) It should have been a recall, the original part was ill-designed (did they run an FMEA on that thing????)
b) Since it is not, make it reasonably priced
c) I waited for it a week….
d) Don’t mind paying for an accessory (400$ for cargo net), but I do about ill engineered parts….
e) My last 3 vehicles have been Chryslers...

He tells you that it is what it is, since you order it you pay it (no cancellations now) and HAVE a nice day with a smirk.

Know what…..this attitude has a name, and it’s called arrogance…..

If someone at a Chrysler dealership can find his inner arrogance right now, I suppose that shows the resiliency of the human spirit I wonder how arrogant he will be about selling doodads for the new Chrysler Grande Punto next year..

Feel your pain.... but today this is the way that companies make their money. Parts and service make up for the shortfalls in new cars. They need to get tons of cash to pay the executive leadership that bleeds most companies and we the little consumer suffer. THis is life in the fast lane for ya!

I feel your pain, but my pain was only $38. You need to find another dealer. James

They replaced the cupholder with the bin for free, back a few years ago. I bought mine on ebay for $20.

By the way, they do have a grain, wish they didn't. I painted mine silver. Pretty much a match with the interior, except the grain stands out.

There is a TSB for the dealer to do it. But if you want to do it yourself, here are instructions:

I've had my cupholder for 3 years now. It's not broken and I use it everyday to hold my mug and slurpees just fine. I know others have had problems, but none here.

BTW, you ordered it without knowing the price? Shame on you!

Did the TS just give his credit card info when ordering without knowing the price?

I'd have laughed in the dealer's face if they tried to say I ordered it, so I pay for it if I hadn't given him my credit card info.

I paid $79 canadian with all the taxes included. I paid way too much but now I have one and thats what happens when you go to the dealer after haveing some beers. And could you believe it that they wouldnt let me test any car with a HEMI. they would let me take out an avenger but I passed on that offer.

After smelling the beer on your breath, they must have had an Avenger they couldn't sell and they wanted rid of... the hard way

I just noticed that your sig does not mention that you went to some of the Canadian GTG's, whats up? Valks house counts and the Lakeshore meet doesn't? Geez.
When I get my drive through coffee joint up and running will that be good enough?
