Default Cupholder replacement on a roadster?

I replaced my cupholder w/ the bin on my coupe with no trouble. Very easy actually.

Here is my concern: I am helping a member change out the cupholder on her roadster at a GTG. I read about the air line for the console lock. Pat said he broke his. How do I work around this or can it be disconnected?

Any advice in advance would be greatly appreciated.

James

Pat , I read you broke your airline while making the change out, how did your repair it? How can I keep from breaking the airline you mentioned?

Thanks, James

ok, just saw this. I changed the cupholder out in my Roadster about three weeks ago. The airline surprised me because no one mentioned it. The service manual (written for a coupe) didnt mention it.

I simply yanked (gently, I guess) the line off the nipple and removed the cupholder.

THen, simply pressed the line back on the fitting during reassembly.

Now, WHERE did the line break? Was it the line or the lock assembly?
Also, just what difference does it make? I mean, if you damage this line, I'd plug the end and not worry about the console locking. Simply make sure it's in the "unlock" position before you pop the bin in (which I did AFTER re-installing the cupholder-less console).

Ok, just read this again and understand you haven't YET broken anything!!

Ok, I'd not worry too much, if I can do it and not mess it up, it' can't be that hard!
Simply take the four screws out as usual and THEN gently pull up and start removing the console carefully. When you get it up enough to get your left hand (assuming you are in the driver's seat) under the console - carefully grasp the line right at the lock mechanism and work it free.

If you are doing this at the Dragon, I'll be there for moral support!

Again, if I can do it and not mess it up, I think anyone can. I am an electronics technician NOT a mechanic or installer! (Been in the field 28 years, worked on all kinds of stuff - then last year when I tried to install a radio in a police car, I put two holes in the gas tank. )

Ok thanks for the info pizzaguy. I think I can handle it. A little forsight goes a long way.

As for making a difference - First it is not my car, I want to put everything back the way it belongs. Second, if it was my car, I want to put everything back the way it belongs.

Thanks again, I appreciate the info.

James

James I never broke the air line on mine but tried to remove the console to find a wire by the gear shift. Could never figure out how to remove the air line and I couldn't lift the console high enough to see underneath to figure it out. Pizzaguy has the only solution I've read on here so maybe I'' try again one day. Pat
