Default Console color and discrepancies.

So I’ve read through many threads on this subject. From my understanding there has never been an official color code for the silver console? Correct me if I’m wrong please? Also we have the discrepancy of the finishes, as I’ve read the earlier models have the glossy finish and the later models have the matte or satin finish. I’ve also read that when replacement parts for the console were ordered it was basically a crap shoot on if you’d get the glossy or satin finish. So basically my goal is to figure out what the color is. Replicating the glossy part is easier than figuring out how to get the satin finish right.

At this point, does anybody have any other info they could be added to this post that would be beneficial on the subject? Thank you guys and gals for any and all input. Thank you in advance.

I have used Duplicolor Bright Silver Metallic (PS2), it initially too shiny fit 2005 model tears and up but when it was really dry I knocked the finish back with a light rub down with a fine wet and dry paper used with water. This is OK on flat surfaces but rubbing down sharply curved surfaces would be a bad idea.
I want to use a semi-gloss clear coat if I can find it.
There is a Mercedes silver said to be a good match but have not found it and so I have no comment on it.
I read that the OEM finish is applied during the moulding operation. If you study the parts this looks probable, as no overspray is visible.
I want to fully solve this before I attempt the final spray on my new modified bezels.

This is pretty much why I created this thread as it’d be nice, once and for all we figured out what was done and how it was done. I.e color and finish. I too have read about the finish being applied during the molding process. I’ve also read somewhere that there was a possibility there were other companies supplying the consoles, as they have the same part# but different finishes. So when ordering a replacement center console Chrysler didn’t know which finish they would receive. Confusing but everything about the Crossfire is confusing lol. Thanks though for the info hopefully more can chime in as well.

My understanding is that 2004's had the gloss silver finish and 2005 and up were the matte finish. At least that's the case with my 04 coupe and my 06 roadster.

I think that the original shiny finish was too shiny and that possibly complaints were made of reflections from the surface as the finish was quickly changed to a duller finish.

Here in then is where the problems pop up. Some people have 04’s with a matte or satin finish as well. Then we have people who have ordered replacement console parts that are glossy finished. This is years later mind you. I know people might find this trivial but if you’re trying to get your car to match it isn’t. I mean if you had a glossy finished ash tray then satin radio bezel it looks displeasing to the eye or even cheap. It’s quite the crap shoot lol

Parts are made in advance, some parts could be have been moulded in lesser quantities at any point in time so when a colour change is made the chances of all the vendors having completed the same numbers of each part in a vehicle set is improbable.
The parts could used in mixed batches when the parts show up JIT at the assembly line.
I have not heard of cars with mismatched parts though. The parts I have purchased through eBay were true to the ‘04 - ‘05 colour change. Having to respray all my modified parts I did not need to worry about it.

I was meaning there have been cases when someone has ordered a replacement part for the console, and received a part with a different finish. I wasn’t suggesting that the cars came stock that way. The only way this would happen would be by ordering a part and it not matching, or pulling a part from a salvaged car and it be different.

I use the words could have and give reasons, at the end I say that I have never heard of the problem and I read most posts and I can recall important ones, that’s’ why I can find particular threads and posts, sometimes I amaze myself. This old gut can still remember.
