Default Multifunction Turn Signal Switch Replacement

I am presently in the middle of the process of replacing the steering column multifunction switch. I am at the point of trying to remove the existing switch and experiencing difficulty. The 3 screws holding the switch assembly and the cruise control have been removed. I need some guidance with how to remove the multifunction switch. My xfire is a 2005 roadster. Can someone provide a link showing the removal sequence? Do I have to remove the lower removal dash panel to access the connector for the switch assembly?
Thanks, Jack

Many people do not know the Service Manual is available for down load as a PDF for free, it is easier to ask someone else how to do something than use search. Often the wrong answer is given and others take that answer as the truth.
I wonder how many answers on this forum are actually correct.
One guys answer to everything was to do a throttle reset, I have only done that once sixteen years ago to see what it was all about.

Thanks dedwards. The section of the manual you suggested didn't go into the detail about having to disconnect the lower dash panel to access the connector for the multifunction switch. I also found the cable tie wrapped in 2 places. Once I was able to access the connector, disconnect the switch connector, and cut the tie wraps, removal was very easy. Before I lowered the dash panel I found a small light duty spring laying on the floor carpet. Now I have to search for where it might belong. If anyone knows where it belongs let me know.
Thanks

Could it be from the turn signal switch?

Thought the same thing but checked the original with the new switch, the spring is there. The spring I found is approx. 1"long x 3/16" in diameter. It is light duty tension type spring with minimal pull resistance. I noticed the release lever used to adjust the steering column position has a spring connected to it's mechanism. I am wondering if this might be where the spring I found needs to go.

An update on my multifunction switch replacement project. I found the cable going to the switch was tie wrapped in 2 places which prevented removing the switch from the steering column. Once they were cut the switch came out without and problems. The new switch has been installed and the headlight flashing function is now working.
