Default Key broke from key fob.

Do need to buy a new key and have it cut to make my car run. Or is there an easier fix. Dad is getting impatient thinking he can fix it himself. Lol. Love him to death but from all i have read it must be hard. Thanks. Newbie here.

Need more information! Is the metal "key" actually in two pieces, or has the metal key become disengaged from the Plastic ?? THERE IS A LOT MORE TO THE fob THAN THE METAL KEY TO START YOUR CAR!!!!
Do you have two keys? It is easy to dig a really deep hole if you do not know what you are doing in respect to the FOB. You need to read this before going any farther: Key Fob info

Here is another link to many fixes for the Crossfire that has been compiled by Onehundred80 over the years; after clicking the Link scroll down the page and find the subject "Fob Repairs" Index of Crossfire Repairs

Inside that FOB is an RFID chip that starts the car. Do not lose that FOB.

How did the key break?
Was it because it was hard to turn in the ignition like a STICKY KEY?

Hutch, I do not know if you are still around, but the metal key can be replaced by Needswings or a local locksmith who works on cars ignitions. If you go to a Chrysler dealership parts dept they can look up on their computers the "keycode" for your specific car. You will need to bring your title and driver's license as proof of ownership and it should be free. Just takes a few minutes and with that "keycode" a locksmith should be able to cut you a new key.

Using the info I provided above you can place the new metal key into your FOB. Good luck!

Sucks to have a broken key. It may be best (if your not sure you can do the replacement) to send the key to one of the shops members recommend here in the forum, that replace the entire keys, that'll make a new key to install into the FOB. You might have to send the second key with it (if only one, do what Zip439 said about going to Chrysler for the key code). Under NO CASE, do you let Chrysler either fix the key or service the car!!! Good luck!

Josh says there is no key code from Chrysler that a locksmith can use.

I believe that database was lost/destroyed some three or four years ago, Zip.
There is no longer dealer support for replacement keys.

I was at the local Chrysler dealer Thursday and they gave me the key code. I was there to get the vehicles PIN, but the process is the same. I showed them my title to the car and drivers license and they looked it up on their computer system. Took about ten minutes in to out the door at the parts dept. and it cost nothing. It was Free. I got the key code, but the PIN was no longer in there system.
I must go into town again Monday afternoon, so I will stop at a locksmith who does a lot of work with car ignitions and see if he can make a key blade with that code I received from Chrysler. He won't be able to repair a SKREEM or make a FOB from scratch, but I'll see if cutting a key is possible.

Ronman, Josh was right. The locksmith is looking for a 5 digit number, but what i got from Chrysler was 16 digit, so he couldn't figure it out.
He does have a tool that allows him to decipher the code he can use from a door lock, but I suspect we are back at $200 + just to get a blade cut.

Thanks for letting us know. Since they no longer sell keys or skreems they should give us all that security info so we don't have to tear apart the dash.

Or some other company should be able to take over for Mercedes since they don't sell skreems or keys to their own customers.

What was the PIN for that you were talking about?
