Takata airbag recall
Hi all,
It seems my car is affected by the Takata airbag recall. But I can't have a definitive answer using the Mopar web site here: https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehic...ls/search.html
Entering the VIN and clicking on SUBMIT does nothing.
Is it only related to US cars ? Mine was first imported to Spain, then to France. I can give the VIN if this helps.
I can't find a sticky thread for this airbag scandal. Does this only affect european cars ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Sorry I can't provide the answer you are looking for but I have an 08 Xfire Roadster that was a Canadian market vehicle and had no issues with the recall replacement in 2018 by local Chrysler dealership, only time it has been to the dealership

The Takata air bag was used in ALL Crossfires. It is not a regional issue.
Here in the USA, by law Chrysler has reached out to registered owners.
I have my airbag disconnected, I will not permit a CHrysler dealer to work on my car - EVER.
I would think you could contact Chrysler in your country or contact your country's vehicle safety authority about this.

.
My 2008 Coupe WAS included in the NHTSA Takata Airbag (Steering Wheel) recall. You might be able to check the NHTSA website ( https://www.nhtsa.gov/ ) with your VIN. At this point, and if you asked me, I would not trust a Chrysler dealer to accept a job that would cost them monies. Good luck!

.
Maybe try a Stellantis dealership in France or the UK that still covers some of the old FCA brand vehicles.
The recall involves 2007-2008 Crossfires, and any recall work is covered by the OEM, not the dealer.
In any case, if you can’t get it fixed, I would recommend you disconnect the airbags like PizzaGuy did. The airbag shrapnel is extremely dangerous.

After trying from another PC, it succeded but says:
There are no outstanding safety recalls for the above listed VINs
Maybe it's because this site only pertains to US vehicules and not exported ones ? Because it seems all Crossfire 2007-2008 were concerned.

- disconnect the airbag as you recommend: is it a difficult task ?
- or replace it by a compatible airbag payload: is there a list of compatible airbags ? Is it possible to get the OEM P/N of the original cartridge to look for compatible ones ?
Thanks for your help.
Not yet, I'll try soon.
Sent an email to contact@chrysler.fr, found the address from the Stellantis main site: mail came back withan error message unknown address :-(
Ultimately, I'm ready to pay for another airbag to replace the faulty one, saw some on eBay. I just need to be sure they're not from Takata.
If I buy one before 2007, will it fit the bill ?
I read in a french forum dedicated to Crossfire owners that the number of Crossfire produced was around 75K. My number (I suppose this is the 6-digit number at the end of the VIN) is around 73K.
Saw on Youtube a guy changing the steering wheel and removing the airbag first, seems easy peasy to do. I guess you have to change the whole frame, not dismantling the airbag itself.
BTW, does this problem also affect passenger airbag ?

@pizzaguy Thanks for your answer. Because I don't want to take any risk, I'm considering 2 things:

The airbag is contained in the custom plastic housing intended for use in a Crossfire. I believe this is the same item as in the SLK320 but I can't say for sure - sure looks like the same thing to me. I would not have a clue how to get the OEM P/N for that item.
I still say Chrysler's national customer service should be able to address this for you. But again, they only do what the law tells them to do and what their lawyers say they should do..........
I found several used steering wheel airbags sold across Europe, before 2007.
The key thing here is to be sure whether it's compatible with the airbag module for a 2007 model? Is a swap just enough?
Or is a coding necessary?
Thanks.
Thanks for your help. It's a mere list of brands and models affected by the recall.

I'll disconnect the battery and probably let it stand overnight to be sure. I'm wondering whether it's safe to let it unplugged rather than take it out from the steering wheel ? Can it explode without any electrical pulse ?
As it seems the airbags before 2007 were made by TWF, if I'm ordering one between 2003 and 2006, I'll probably have to change the airbag module (called SRS?).
Thanks for your answer.
