Default Alarm keeps going off

Hi all, I have an 04 crossfire limited, and the alarm keeps going off. I took the car to the dealership, and they attempted to in hook the siren, and then I guess tried to re program the central computer. The computer would not reprogram, so they were told by Chrysler that they needed a new central computer. They bought a used one, and it turns out they can't transfer a used central computer from one car to the next. So I would need to buys a whole new counter at $2500. This seems crazy to me.

Has anyone out there had to get their alarm fixed because it kept going off falsely? If so, what was the fix. I am not keen on paying this kind of money to fix my car alarm. Right now the car won't even start... And Chrysler engineering don't seem to be much help.

Typically the alarm issue is a sign of water in the hatch.

Thanks for the note. I'll have them check that out at the dealership.

Get them to look at the alarm itself, when they fail they go off randomly.
Also the cars battery can cause problem when it is failing.
So check the alarm itself and then the car battery.
Replacing the alarm is probably the first thing to do.
Also sensors connected to the alarm are a cause of trouble as well, latches and locks.
Personally I'd bet on the alarm module being at fault, then the car battery. The alarm module and the battery are pretty cheap to replace.

Thanks very much, I'll pass this off to them. They basically tried to in hook the siren, and then when they went to re program the control module for the car, it would not re program and now I think they have bungled that up so it needs replacing. Which might mean a large payment....

Shouldn't be at your expense though...
Sounds like like a right royal screw-up on their part - so they pay.
Good luck - sounds like you might need it!

Mine did the same, i bought a new siren for around (€100) its under the hood and has a small battery.

But i never installed it because the alarm stopped 1 week before i got the part in.

But it could be a defect battery in the siren, it also could be something else.

So, the latest is they say the power control module, is gone. When the horn was un hooked, the PCM shut down, they can't re program it (basically in shut down mode due to the alarm). Since they can't re program it, I need a new one. This is a $2500 part. Does anyone know anything about this or if it makes sense. Can't use a used PCM, because cross fires can only use new ones that have never been programmed before, so have to go new. The part number is 68027422ab.

Does anyone know where to get a cheaper PCM or crossfire parts?

With the PCM gone, is their fault because it was fine when I brought it into the dealership? Or was it done anyway because it was setting off the alarm haphazardly? Should I be paying for this since they un hooked the alarm and thus screwed up the PCM?

Several members have replaced the alarm module with no issues.. in fact one is running two alarms! They almost had to have jacked it up and passing the buck.. out of your wallet..

Thanks, my understanding is the alarm module is attached to the PCM and the whole thing needs to be replaced...

They screwed it up and should fix it. Complain to Chrysler at least, but these people are crafty sods, They'll say it costs $2,500 and then say that as a good will gesture they will let you have it for $1,750.

I am sure it can be re-programed, but maybe not by those idiots.

Let's face it if all the data on it was written in stone we would be replacing the mother boards in our computers all the time.

Outrageous! - their bungling investigations caused this - so they should pay.
Surely just disconnecting the horn should not cause the whole pcm to shut down permanently?
You need to be asking them:
Assuming the old alarm/horn needs disconnecting before fitting a new one, do they really fit a new pcm every time as well?
Is a new pcm required every time an alarm is replaced?
This is just BS - at your (considerable) expense - IMHO!

Thanks all for the replays. Not sure what I am doing yet. But might end up just buying the part myself and having them put it in... Not sure what happened with this thing but it seems pretty crazy that the PCM needs replacing for a simple alarm issue.

Well like I've stated.. people have replaced the alarm module in their garages without needing a roll back to get a pcm replacement... If they want to stick to the story, I'd drop and dime on Chryslers customer service..

Do you happen to have a friend with any legal training ?
It was running when you took it in, they screwed it up, they should at least return it to the state in which they received it.
