Default New to the Chrysler crossfire

Sorry as I imagine this is asked a lot but I just picked up a 2005 crossfire as fell in love after taking it out for the test drive, now I was told it had issues apparently common to the car ie speedometer not working and spoiler stuck up and was told it was more likely just a fuse or 2, please excuse my ignorance but I'm not a mechanic but the engine runs like a dream the abs light is on but again told was all on the same fuse loop, but I just don't know where to even start with it in the UK as not many on the roads for some reason I don't understand, any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Nice to be part of the group. Hope someone can help me out.

Those issues are not all related to a fuse; someone is just feeding you a line in hopes of getting the car sold. More than likely you have a speed sensor gone bad at one of your wheels. You can determine which wheel/sensor it is if you can scan the car with a good diagnostic tool that goes beyond OB II and can get into the manufactures codes. The car should scan as a Mercedes 2003 SLK 320 if it is not a STR6 supercharged model: if it is supercharged you can scan it as a 2003 Mercedes SLK32. Both are on the Mercedes R170 platform.

Wheel speed senors are not too expensive, but they are specific as to which wheel they fit on. Enjoy the ride.

Since you are in the UK, you may want to click on the links below, since there has been a group of Crossfire owners in the UK for quite a while. There maybe a chance a member will direct you in the right direction for repairs at a local independent Mercedes shop to make your repairs to your Crossfire, DO NOT take it to a Chrysler Dealer, since they are no longer associated with Mercedes Benz.
The second link is for parts related to the Crossfire.
Good luck in your quest to fix your Crossfire.
Regards,

Dennis

Thanks for the fast reply and since then I have been told that the belt driven water pump is out of line and also because it's supposed to be all on the same line having the thing replacing should sort out a couple of other things such as tapping sound on idle but then I get told that the ABS ring needs to be replaced as abs light is on, I am not a mechanic at all so with speedometer not working and spoiler up I am just a little bit concerned, she drives like a dream I swear and it's manual so if I have a fool up the back end of the car they're just a distant memory in a couple of seconds as it is a very quick car, I am just truly in a panic that there's more wrong than I thought and now the CD player won't load. Any pointers you could give me I couldn't even explain how grateful I would be and apologise for being so mechanically lacking in knowledge but I learn extremely fast. Please if you get a chance I hope you can read through my message. Respect.

If it's the original radio with the CD player, you're best bet would be to replace it. It's not hard to do and there are a bunch of posts on here to show you how to do it. You could also disconnect the negative cable from the battery for a few minutes and reattach it. That may allow the CD to load.
As for your cars other problems, the best way to find out what they are is to have the car scanned for trouble codes. There is a port located under the dash near the hood release (USA cars) I would guess it's the same for right hand drive cars.
Depending on the scanner, some of the less expensive ones don't see a Crossfire, the car may have to be scanned as a Mercedes SLK 320. Some auto parts stores may scan your car for you.

None of what you are being told makes much sense. Are you going to a Mercedes mechanic? Other than the body, you are driving a Mercedes. Sounds to me a new RCM would solve most of the issues.

Wyliecoyote, I hope you contact the UK Crossfire groups listed above. They will have info as to mechanics that can work reliably on your car. Can the water pump make noise, yes, but how do you know it is out of alignment? You can see the belt rotate as the engine idles in park with the hood up. Is that belt wobbling, or not running true. Just look at it. The tensioner pulley goes bad more often than any of the others the belt drives. Did the same person tell you the ABS "ring" needs to be replaced? Cause that is highly unlikely! As I mentioned in my first post each wheel has speed sensors ( they are the electronic pickup at each wheel) and they go bad. They pick up a signal as the reluctor ring which is solid and part of the wheel rotates as your car moves. Those solid reluctor rings do not go bad. Far more likely the speed sensor goes bad. So what ABS "ring" are we talking about?
These are all minor concerns, so get some good trust worthy input. Meet up with someone from a Crossfire group in the UK and/or go to a good Mercedes mechanic.
