Too bad, too!

Hummer I can see disappearing; frankly, I could care less if it does.
Saturn is a surprise since everywhere you go you'll see one. On what stretch of road don't you see a Saturn?
Saab, maybe the Swedes will be interested in getting their brand back again.
But Pontiac? Never saw that one coming!

Kurts, I have to agree. Buick? maybe, Pontiac? I think it's their best line.

Buick is HUGE in China and that is the ultimate emerging market. Pontiac has the Solstice and G8 and that's it (the G3, Vibe, G6 really don't matter in the overall automotive landscape). The Solstice really has limited appeal, as does any small, two seat roadster, and the G8 is a Holden. The Australian auto industry is in even worse shape than the US auto industry so Holden may not be around much longer either.

Why they don't just shoot Hummer and dump the body in a ditch is beyond me, though.

I hate to see Pontiac go. I think it's GM's best looking cars. Unfortunately, the market these cars are aimed at can no longer afford to buy one. People that like Buick still have the bunk to buy them. Soon the hollowed remains of the middle class will be happy to drive the family around in one of those little Diatsu trucks that you see sitting everywhere, but never going anywhere. It sucks watching America slowly being given away to foreign countries. Look around. Where have we gone?

In my opinion Americans {Canadian’s too} went down the slippery slope of second world status when they bought, like lemmings, into the myth that Toyota and Honda had the only cars to buy, due to perceived quality. This left few if any of the profit dollars staying to provide jobs. To hide the deterioration we went into sub prime mortgages to give the illusion of wealth.
The house of cards has now crumbled and yet few see that not supporting local [North American] business has been the creation of our present situation.

Really though Pontiac kind of stopped being pontiac when they did away with the 400 and started putting small block chevys in them. I felt it was just like you had the outerskin but but the reality was they were cutting corners and just adding a new nose and tail lights and calling the cars something different. It's a shame but it makes sense from where they are now they should just call the car brand General Motors and take there stable down to 5 cars, 3 trucks and 2 suv's. Which ever are there top sellers out of there brands. They were kind of like a resturaunt with 50 things on there menu they don't do many of them well but if they narrowed it down and gave there products more R&D and Quality they could probably turn things around. I hope they do.

I agree with you, the Xfire is the first car that I have purchased, new or used, that was made outside of the US or Canada. I always told friends that had foreign built cars that they were killing jobs in North America and were undermining the NA economy.
These cars come from countries that have very restrictive policies on importing cars from NA. Fair trade I agree with but not the biased policies that we have now that sees NA monies lost to overseas corporations.
Keep the jobs here.

This is a shame. I loved my 2000 Trans Am.

GM just didn't seem to realize how to make Pontiacs exciting and affordable. When the new GTO came out I tried to buy one from the same place that I bought my Trans Am. They wouldn't move an inch on price. Went to 2 other local dealers...same exact thing. The car I initially tried to buy sat on their lot for over 4 months before it sold. When they upped the power and added the hood scoops 2 years later I went to check them out again. Still, not an inch on the price. If that car was 5k less it would have sold like mad. Instead, it continued to get flogged by the cheaper Mustang, just like the Firebird before it.

Pontiac had a good run and will certainly be missed.

Philly now you can pick a good 350 horse GTO for about the same cost as an SRT about 15-17k if you shop. The Upgraded ones are still fetching over 20+. The 350 Horse one is still a low 13 second car and they have a very good after market turbo kits, Superchargers headers etc. Can easily get those things up to 500 horse on pump gas. Then maybe it will do it's name proud.

Pontiac ceased being the "performance" division when they marketed their own minivan. In my opinion GM should have kept Oldsmobile and canned Pontiac.

I was driving back from St.Louis today and actually pulled into a gas station with two new Pontiact G8 GXPs' that a dealer was driving to Chicago.

They are good looking cars with a nice 6spd in a sedan...

Its truly ashame Pontiac is going the way of the dodo bird.

Just like the crossfire, Pontiac needed better marketing...a lot better.
