WTB: Shims for the 1st gen (?) C3 pulley
Hi all,
My first attempt to install the C3 ended in failure due to the pulley not lining up as it should (from what I can tell). Eurocharged is having a tune in less than a month, and it is imperative that I have everything installed before this.
With that said, I need some shims!!! One or two should suffice. Optimally, i'd like to find someone that wouldn't mind donating me leftover shims and I'd pay for shipping. If not, I can offer some extra $$$.
Please let me know!
-Matt

unfortunatly a bunch us of donated our spare shims to a member who said they"lost" the shims in a moment of stupidity. as it doesnt seem they are any extras out there and hpautowerks says they dont have any your best best is to go to a 4x4 shop and see if they will let you search thru their differential spacer bin. i was able to find the thickness needed but finding the inner diameter is a bit of a battle.
you might try calling hpautowerks and see if brandon still works there(dont think so) maybe they can give you a contact # and you can call him and see were he had the shims made or the specs for them. he is in cali anyway.
do you have any shims at all? dont worry about the specs. get the pulley as close as possible without touching the clutch.

Generally the ID or OD are important but the other diameter is often less so.
Let me know the ID and the OD and which one is important and I will look.
Custom shims require the tooling to make them and no one is going to make a set up for a few bucks.

EDIT: I'm curious... do the stock shims work? I am wondering if I can go to a junkyard and find a C32 (doubtful for SRT6) and grab some shims off off it.

OK, 180, you might have to help me out with the conversion. ID is 11/4"/ OD is 1 9/16th". I believe that to be ID 3.2 cm/ OD 4 cm. I don't own a micrometer, but it takes 5 shims to make 1 cm. The shims aren't all the same thickness as I had thought. I can ship you out one of the thicker ones if you like?

I sold the pulley a few years later and ended up purchasing another pulley from HP Autowerks. It did not come with, nor require any shims. I had to actually remove the 3 stock shims for proper fit. Each of these cars will be slightly different, but the shims should be a fairly standard item. I would think they could be bought all the shelf with the proper measurments.

Doc, if you're willing I wouldn't mind borrowing the shims and returning them to you after the tune is done.
However...
I did not realize that some people had to *remove* the stock shims for the newer style C3 to work. I got mine used, though the seller said it was the newest version... perhaps the stock shims are actually causing problems.
Let me get back to you after I take another look.
mj is the pulley to close or to far away? i have a gen 1 pulley and needed 5 shims to get enough clearance to work. the newer versions didnt need any shims to get the cleaarnace. if you have the oem shims in place what i would do is remove all the shims and install the pulley torque to 20 nm NO MORE!! if theres clearance but no touching anywere your golden. if it touches anywere remove and add 1 shim then repeat. keep going till you find the sweet spot or run out of shims
remember the bolt is hollow 20 nm torque(14 ft/lbs ) if you torque it to 20 ft/lbs you will break the bolt. then you really have issues
hope it works for you

no shims from m/b. they will only sell them as a replacement bolt washer pulley set. 1000$
mj i actually bought my c3 used from e/c. you might try jake or jerry and see if he has any spares laying around. at one time they had 4 pulleys. doubt they have any now but who knows?
