Default What can a Limited do?

I'm always reading those great times that the SRT6's are turning, and it got me to thinking, "What is the best 1/4 mile time we might ever see for a Limited"?
I've read where 14.7 sec. is about the best you can hope for from a "bone stock" LTD, maybe 14.4's with a computer enhancement.
But since the fastest (non-supercharged) Crossfire on the site has to be HDDP's stripped down race car, I wonder what it would take to get him to make a few runs down the 1/4 mile for us.
He's probably going to tell us that he would be completely out of his element, but I'm sure he has excellent reaction times, he knows how to shift as good as anybody, launching the car shouldn't be a problem, and he already has slicks mounted. I bet he even has some friends who would teach him about the "tree".
Now I'm not exactly sure what modifications he's made to his car, but at least we'd have some idea what a Crossfire can do in a scenario that most of us can identify with.
I know he's a busy man, and it probably costs him at least $100 everytime he hooks the trailer up to go practically anywhere, so I'd be willing to donate to a paypal fund to cover his expenses. Anybody else?
So how about it Derek, what's it going to cost us for you to be our "Hired Gun"?

Howdy,

Anytime you are curious what a particular car actually runs at the strip try...

www.dragtimes.com

Quickest N/A Crossfire time I've seen is...

http://www.dragtimes.com/Chrysler-Cr...slip-4136.html

This guy must have the secret to launching these little cars. Pretty much stock except for routine mods like cat-back, intake and ECU tune. Probably generic Bosch flash program download used by Speed Innovations, Upsolute, PowerChips and everybody else out there...

This site also has a very cool horsepower calculator; plug-in vehicle weight, e.t. and trap speed and flywheel Hp is deduced !

Slim

p.s. I ran a 15.32 @ 94 MPH in 102 degree heat and 65% humidity. My 60 foot times were awful, TC kicked-in on the 1-2 shift. I think 14.9-14.7 times are realistic with most non-SRT Crossfires if the driving and air is good...

Cincy Slim, thanks for the web site. I think the fastest Limited 1/4 mile time I've read on this forum is 14.4 by Red Cross.
I think Dereks (aka HDDP) car should qualify as the fastest non-supercharged Crossfire on the forum, and that's why I was calling him out.
I guess he's just been too busy to respond, he usually never shys away from a challenge.
I'd just really enjoy hearing what his car would be capable of.

Well, I better do it quick, because I'm getting ready to drop the new SRT6 engine in the car... This might not be a good test because my clutch is pretty much toast right now... I had planned on installing a new stage 4 SPEC clutch when we change the engine out...

Let me see if Pomona Drag Strip has any weekend events coming-up and I'll "take one for the team" before I swap engines...

Derek, that would be great.
So you're going to take a chance and see how long that 6 speed holds up to the AMG motor?
What kind of cars are going to be in your class with that motor?

This is De...Ja...Vu... I was thinking of this very question today. I am not the auto enthusiasts that you gentlemen are but owing 2 of our favorites I do have a profound interest. My question was now that Derek has done ALL of the heavy lifting these many years, What is your best 0-60, 1/4 mile times that all of these weekend dragsters are always concerned about. I know this is not your cup of tea cause I think as you, that getting there is not a straight line. That being said, that's what they all talk about. I've followed from the sidelines your stripping down, streamlining and honing the crossfire to become the poster of our car. I'm really looking forward to you times before the SRT conversion.

I would be happy to post any of my 1/4 times once I get home to find the slips, but the only problem is, I'm going to be the slowest times you've seen. Although I have great reaction times, the altitude kills 1/4 times. Normally at least a second slower due to being over 5K feet up.

Yes, but it's a lot easier to join the "Mile High" club there. So I guess it's a trade off.

Hey Derek, I don't think Pomona has open drags anymore, I think its all pro races now only, there were too many complaints about noise from the people that lived around there. I live like 1.5 miles from there, so if you get out there let me know and I'll go meet you up. But the guy I spoke to about a year ago that works there said they stopped doing public drags in like 2002. You can always go to Fontana, but that track is horrible, dusty, high elevation, and hot. Kills times. I can't wait to see your car once the engine is swapped, you continue to be our biggest trail blazer.

I'm off to Winton again this weekend then Sandown two after that and the six hour relay.

Was a little slow to start as I spent the previous weekend attached to an ECG and MRI machines.

But we ran well at the island.

Managed to stay ahead of the Porsche and Lotus's or is that Loti??? 190 Kph through Southern loop and I had one of the Porsches spin in front of me, I think I pushed him a little hard.

All good fun no video unfortunately but waiting for the pics to come.

Cheers from Downunder,

Nice work getting down to the low 1:54. Those 240Z must be feeling the heat from the XF.

Default Thanks

Its about as fast as she can go given the limitations including $$ that I have.

Remember she is an automatic shift as well.!

Need to stiffen her up a bit but my wife draws the line at a cage, given that it is an everyday driver that we rip the seats out and replace with the Sparco every race.

The Z's are VERY highly developed full race cars so I may have to join them or win the lottery and go the same way as HDDP.
