Default Automatic Headlights

Has anyone tried to convert the headlights to automatic headlights? The headlight switch in M/B vehicles looks just like the Crossfire switch with the addition of the Automatic position. I'm not sure how the light sensor would connect or if its run through the vehicles computer. Suggestions anyone. I would love to convert it so that the headlights automatically turn on at night.

Are you referring to a headlight that automatically turns on, or the headlights that turn and such with the car?

Yes you need a sensor for light measurement. Basically almost everything is possible but might result in pita.

Just as all '04 - models have auto dim rear mirror, the first 500 (+/-) built XF had rain sensors.
But there never was a headlight sensor.

On my '06 roadster the headlights go on automatic when you put it in gear, day or night.
Only in Canada, eh.

Hmm... most models use the same wiring harness to save money, just that the cars are optioned differently. I wonder if this is true for the Crossfire and if so one just needs the parts and then it's "plug and play".

That's what I was thinking but I was hoping that someone else had already tried it.

Hi to all, im an Italian Crossfire owner. Excuse me for my bad english first. For the automatic light you can ask to your dealer. I've asked to my dealer and response was: eur 36 (+/-) for install a little relè. When you put the gear headlight go on. More Xfire had this system because is requested by National law.
I hope to be clear. Goodbye.

Wow, as simple as installing a relay. That would be nice!

Thanks,
Pierre

Does anyone have the repair manual with the wiring schematics? If so does it show the Euro version too? That would be a good place to start.

I believe that to get the DRL function you have to replace the entire headlight switch with a Canada-spec one. This was discussed not too long ago so you might want to do a search.

The Crossfire, unlike many other cars out there, does not come pre-wired for all the options. If the option was not installed at the factory chances are the wiring will not be there for it.

Search the forum for threads on installing the rear fog light on US-spec models or installing fog lights on a base coupe.

You're asking a question in a thread that is more than 7 years old (that last post was in July 2007). It's not likely that you'll be getting a response . . .

Do not confuse DRL's ( Daytime Running Lights ) with automatic headlights.
DRL's are a function of the headlight switch for Canada, while automatic headlights would require a sensor and associated wiring, along with an 'automatic' position for the light switch.
I have automatic headlights on my Chrysler Concorde, it has a sensor front center above the dashboard.

I could be done, however it would not be a trivial project.

Thanks for Your reply. I'm looking only possibility to get normal lights turn on automatically when car is running. No need to work with brightness..

Or I was thinking that DLR's turn on automatically allways when car is running and other lights manually..

So, I'm just finding out, is these possible to make with low costs

"Automatic" DRL's - yes.. there is a terminal in the fuse box by the brake master cylinder that is "key on hot".. I'm planning on adding a Normally closed relay to the DRL's I'm adding that will open the circuit when headlights are turned on.
