Yes, I went with an AGM battery. Have been using AGM batteries for some time now and love the fact that you do not have to worry about venting and just the general fact of how much more robust they are and forgiving of vibrations, climate / heat & of being discharged!

Now with AGM, you can go with a much smaller / lighter battery but for me, I liked the idea of keeping with the same size to maximize its power output.

Deka makes one. Model: 9A48: Amazon.com: Deka 9A48 12-volt AGM

But I also found that Interstate makes an AGM version of the H6! Quite a bit more expensive but with the original H6 being so much (identical) to the factory battery I really liked the idea of going with the AGM version of the same as I had hoped it would be an EXACT match in size & shape to the original.

And.... It IS!

Interstate MTP-H6A CCA: 800. CA: 1000. RC: 116.

Downside? Well, the battery was $195... But again, I am a firm believer of the AGM benefits so it was worth it to me!
Well I just ordered my Braille Endurance Battery B7548... Retail $248. The cheapest I could get it for was $210 shipped not cheap by any means but it's crazy powerful!
Hopefully it's worth the price.

The main reason I chose the Braille is because if I leave my car at the airport for a few weeks it'll start when I come back... I'd love a light weight battery but I rather have the dependability as this is my only car at the moment.

Well after over 8 years the original Varta battery in mine gave up the ghost so I went with the Bosch battery from Pep Boys for $92. The original Varta battery was able to get the car started last winter after sitting in the garage for almost 3 months unattended.

You have the correct attitude there. The more the battery weighs the more power it can store all things being equal.

The OEM battery is still going strong. I will change it at the first sign of a problem. But not before.

Sounds like an electrical issue. Especially when the fuses are blowing. Changing the battery should not cause the problem.

Hi,
I just now had to replace my original battery in my '04! I noticed a
change in hydometer readings last year and it finally gave up. It won't take a charge so I suspect it is sulfated the plates from not enough use.
Here's some updated info for "onehundred80" 's original info page as it
pretains to the Canadian Tire replacement battery.
The battery in the original report was listed as a "Eliminator"
(p/n)#10-4800-8. This number now is for a "Motomaster" battery; apparently the same unit as before but they brought in a new improved "Eliminator" with the (p/n) 10-4885-6 that has a higher CCA of 910 @ 32F / 760 @ 0 F and a
120 min reserve rating. The recycle tag shows it's from Exide.
It is an identical fit and look for the Varta , with two handles but is black body and top ; vent holes and cap retainer holes provided.
Canadian price was 129.99 plus taxes for the new "Eliminator" and 109.99 for the "Motomaster" (better prorating and warranty on the "Eliminator")

Thanks James, I just got this one for my latest Crossfire in February and never checked the numbers or details at all. I saw it looked different but never crosschecked them. I paid $144.99 for mine. I never checked the bill when I purchased it and did not realize that until I just checked the bill, I thought your price was what I paid, I'll look into that.
First post updated to suit the new details.

There are two vent holes, plug one with the plug provided and install the catch basin from the OEM battery in the other. You do not want any fluid dripping on your car.

Could someone provide a pic of the OEM 'catch basin'. I don't have one? I think a Dealer might have removed it when the battery was replaced under warranty years ago.

Here it is, also shown attached to the battery.
Sorry I cannot attach a picture, so go here.
The vent hole shown has some Teflon© tape in it to make the catch basin fit tighter.

My 04 never had a catch-can. I bought it with 5K miles on it, with original battery and it was no-where to be found. I plugged the vent of my new battery closest to the firewall and vented the other side of the battery via a tube.

My car did not have this vent pot or collection cup. I have seen a pic before and wanted to buy one. Does anyone know where you can get one or two?

what do you do if your battery is so hammered the doors won't unlock? I can't get to the hood release to get to the battery. I tried to attach my charger to the alternator to battery cable but it won't take a charge. I think the battery must have a dead short but I can't get to it. Any advise?

I remember reading about this identical problem about 3 or so years ago. So I know the solution is somewhere on the site. Have you tried a search and what key words did you use. It may take a lot of reading.

If and that is a big IF I kinda remember something about the person taking out the grille like when you have to tow the car. There is a clips on the sides of the grille. They then could get at the latch. I think they had to take the latch apart from there.

I assume you have tried your key in the drivers side doo and that did not work.

If this was a real Mercedes you could use your vallet key to get in. Because of this issue I always leave my doors unlocked when I store the crossfires for the winter. Never seem to have this problem with the older Triumphs -- Tr6 and TR3A. Except for the TR6 in the past before I got smart and put a manual emergency release on it I had to drill a hole in the hood to get at the latch. That hood opens from the back.

Come to think about it that was THE after the fact fix for this issue. The guy ran a wire so he could get to it from under the car. Similiar to what I have on the TR6.

Hope this helps.

Joe

Did you leave the key in the ignition too ?
If, not, then you should be able to unlock the driver's door and pull the hood latch .....
