Shut off spoiler?
Is there a way to shut off the spoiler lifting automatically? I don't like the way it comes up on it's own. I would like to shut it off completely if possible.
The car looks good until the weak spoiler comes up.

Can't turn it off unless you disconnect the motor! They say for car stability the spoiler is needed at high speeds. The service manual says it creates 40 lbs. of downforce at 80 mph. Most people think the spoiler looks cool. 8).......(disconnecting motor might turn on a warning lamp)

If you disconnect the motor the car will actually be electronically limited to 57 mph... it won't go any faster. The spoiler is there because it actually makes a big difference, and it is a safety issue if it isn't functioning. The Crossfire is shaped like a wing, and the spoiler needs to be there to help it stay on the ground.
My guess is that there is most likely a open and closed limit switch to tell the computers that the spoiler is either up or down. If you open it manually then close it, there is a beep to let you know it has fully closed. I would think the open limit switch would tell the computer that the spoiler was fully opened and let the car go faster than 57mph. If you wanted to have the car go faster than 57mph ( and who doesn't) you might be able to by pass the open limit switch, disconnect the motor and keep the spoiler down at any speed. I wonder though if this were done and for some reason you lost control of the car above 57 mph, if your insurance would pay for the damages?
I actually like the spoiler going up, and unlike others that have a complaint about the noise it makes , I don't hear it going up or down. My wife likes it to go up as well and has sometimes had to look behind us to see if it has gone up.

I don't really mind the sound, let's me know I'm going faster than the speed limit, can be good
There's always the "turn up the radio" noise reduction system. :P
I would seriously not mess with the system unless you know what you are doing in terms of driving a lose vehicle at high speeds, your car and you may not be the only things or ones you hurt if something goes wrong.

To disable the spoiler simply pull the fuse. It's located under the hood in the fuse box, number 20 I believe. It's a 10 amp fuse. The car will go as fast without the fuse as it does with it, but you'll get a tone that starts sounding at 85 mph. However, pull the fuse at your own risk. I'm not a mechanic or engineer and disabling the spoiler could lead to loss of control and serious injury or death.
Been meaning to try and find the fuse. Thanks for quick info (saves me time) and the heads up on the Tone'ing. Bummer.
I have concerns about winter-ice freezing it closed. I assume the motor has a pressure limit (eventually give-up if its frozen or otherwise stuck in the closed position) instead of just burning out the motor. But, anyone know for sure? Or, just want to try it out on their's?

You've got a very good point that has been on the back of my mind.
I used to have a Mitsu 3000GT VR4 which also had a speed-deployed rear-spoiler and front dam and although I didn't have the problem, I've heard that other owners had an issue with water getting into the system, freezing and then the motor would burn out when it tried to deploy.
I'll ask my mechanic to check with DCX and see what they say.
The other way to do it is to deploy it manually, obstruct it and see what it does. It might have a jam and resistance sensor like the rear hatch of my Pacifica, in which case, kudos to the designers.

I was a skeptic until we had a minor malfunction with the spoiler. It fixed itself but when it didn't deploy, you could feel the difference. It was very noticable when driving by trucks. And the slight sqat and stiffening of the suspension is a cool feeling when it deploys.

Chill Dude..... If you'll look this thread died back in Oct. 2003. This is really old news. :?

From Service Manual (23-116)
When the vehicle reaches 50 mph (80 km/h), the rear spoiler deploys, giving the vehicle 40 Lbs. (356 Newtons) of downforce at 80 mph (129 km/h).

I'm wondering which unit is supposed to be the correct one....

I will check that just to be sure.

Up at 65Mph, down at 40Mph
If you accelerate hard you can easily get to 80mph before the spoiler has fully deployed as it is quite slow.
If you disabled it I'm sure you would invalidate your insurance policy. Do so at your own risk. Your best option is to never drive above 65Mph so it will never deploy! Drive live a grandad.
