Can the manual transmission handle 400+ hp?
Can the manual transmission handle 400+ hp?
I took a limited yellow convertible and a donor SRT-6 AMG and made a yellow convertible SRT-6 AMG. It is awesome. Started posting pics in my gallery.
My next project is to make a yellow, convertible AMG manual 6 speed transmission. Does anyone know how much hp the manual transmission can handle? I need it to handle 400+ hp. If so, where is it used? What are the specifications? Will the clutch and pressure plate withstand it? Or are there clutch and pressure plate upgrades needed?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Shannan

Re: Can the manual transmission handle 400+ hp?
Short answer: Most likely not, short of a performance clutch assembly.
What is more curious is as to how you plan on getting 400whp out of it, since a) tuning will be a problem, made even bigger by trying to mate a 6MT to an engine/ecu designed for a 5speed auto. b) Out of everyone on this forum with years and year of tinkering, not one person has reach 400whp, off of spray...so I'm more curious than anything. c)why yellow? it's just....meh. IMO, of course.

Shannan, I strongly suggest doing a member search for "HDDP" and settling down with a nice Mocha for a long read. I think many of your questions about SRT/6-Speed compatibility will be covered at length, and with excellent pictures to boot.
I'm with Zahanma though, 400WHP is gonna be a fun endeavor. When you figure it out, let us know!

now 400whp, off spray, that's a goal. most I've seen dyno'd was something like 359whp or something similar on a DynoJet...I think it was by Brian Brave...

I would get it running with the original spoiler, manually operated if necessary, and use it as a sleeper, now that would be impressive.
Changing to a 6 speed would be a major step and maybe you could have more fun with the sleeper. I know that I would.

Re: SRT6 Engine Transplant - 07-13-2008 , 03:22 PM
So here's the update on the AMG engine transplant so you guys & gals don't have to go thru the hell I did. First off, manual transmission with the AMG engine is a major problem. The bolt pattern on the crankshaft flange between the two engines is different and a new flywheel / pressure plate from a 2006 C230 Sport Coupe must be used, this is the only flywheel I have found to have the 4+4 bolt pattern that is used on the SRT6 crank. But the flywheel must be modified slightly because there are three dowels that align the pressure plate to the clutch cover and these are different from the OEM. You could use a clutch from the C230 though and this would solve your problem, but I had a SPEC clutch that needed to be fitted...
More gruesome details later...
I believe this is post 283 by Derek on him posting of his racecar build
