A/C Recirculation Door Stuck
The first real problem showed up today on a sold Crossfire. Customer stated that the interior of the glass would not unfog so to make the story short after removing the glove box assy I found that the recirc door on the A/C case is stuck in the recirc position. The gears on the actuator are jamming up. Unjammed the door, tied it in the fresh air position and disconnected the vac solenoid and ordered parts. Now the dash and A/C case have to come out..... Stay tuned for the next installment.  :x
Sounds like I might have the same problem. Mine will defog but it takes forever! I don't feel much air coming out of the defog vents in the dash.
Thanks for the info.

After playing around with the heater controls and reading the manual, I could not find a dedicated position for windshield defrost. So I did what willie did and closed the front vents. That seems to direct all the air up through the windshield vents. You may want to open the side vents just a bit and aim them towards the driver and passenger windows to speed up the process.
That has worked fine for me all this winter.

Mine seems to de-fog/frost very well. I get immediate results when I switch to those settings.
But, just today I was noticing next to nothing coming out the lower (leg) vents. Haven't driven much in the cold (drove today to ensure I could get out of the driveway to get the new radio tomorrow), so I don't know if it has been like that all along. Cold feet and knees this morning, though.

Absolutely - the air conditioner will remove the moisture from the air, which helps the defrost process quite a bit.
Most oher cars kick the A/C on automatically when you switch to the "defrost windshield". I actually like it better that I do it myself. Why run the compressor if it is not really needed - cuts about 3-4 mpg with the A/C on.

Followup on the broken recirc door actuator. I've spent much of this week carefully disassembling and removing the dash board and A/C case on this Crossfire. It's pretty much reassembled now and everything works. The shop manual and the updates on dealerconnect are totally useless and misleading. The whole job turned into a "invent as you go" to disassemble the dash. Everything is hard to take apart, wire connectors are too tight, and hidden screws are everywhere that the manual doesn't mention. The dash is made up from interconnecting panels and must be removed in sequence. The dash top was really difficult to remove. Wire harnesses were routed through brackets on the dash cross brace, making extra work to remove. The main problem, the recirculation door actuator spring, uses plastic buttons to hold the spring ends and one broke. A metal clip anchored to a mounting screw would be better. Can anyone else say they have removed the entire dash of a Crossfire?

Interesting...........when I had 9599 and experienced the same problem the dealer insisted the fogging problem was "normal" for this car if the a/c compressor was not run continuously. My new baby doesn't have this problem at all and per your post above, it appears the recirculation door was stuck just as I suspected. The dealer failed to diagnose properly......I would have to say that anyone who has any problem with an Xfire that needs troubleshooting is at risk ...... Chrysler are you listening?????
Mopar Doctor-
YES!! In CF School in Orlando we pulled the dash apart (and everything else in the car... EVERYTHING). I am surprised this wasnt done in your area... Detrimming the interior is a prerequisite of the course.

We only removed some of the console and other trim. The CF we had was the only one on the West Coast at the time and the instructor's driver so he didn't want to take the bus back to San Francisco. I posted a picture of the actuator in my gallery.

I am just curious.. how do you get the air inside the cabin to recirculate?? I don't see any button or switch to do so...
I often drive through the Lincoln Tunnel into NYC with my xfire and would rather recirculate the air so I don't get any fumes.. or if its super hot outside I'd like to recirculate the AC so it gets colder faster..
How do you put it on recirculate?

NJ:
My understanding is:
The button on the dash under the air conditioner button has two functions. When the engine is running it acts as the air recirc button. If the air conditioner is on, the air recirc will stay on continuously. If you are only running outside air, the recirc will only stay on for about 10 minutes and then kick itself off. When the engine is off, it will take remaining heat from the engine to keep the car warm.
