Failing oil level sensor. Need valid part #
Well, after 73,000+ miles..My oil level sensor has given up the ghost! Sadly, My local dealer can't seem to find the part. All he comes up with is the oil pressure sender. He called another dealer in Dallas to ask someone there who is"the local crossfire expert"(according to him). After explaining to the expert what we were looking for, He said, "Ok,I'll tell him" and hangs up. Then he told me the sensor is part of the oil pan and I'd be looking at about $500.00 to get one.

I have an old part number but, I think it is either missing a prefix or possibly it has been superceded?? I gave the dealer this number and they said it's good. It's the only number I can find and now I just wish I could remember which pdf it's in so I can print it out and show it to them to prove I'm not nuts!

If you take the 0 off the number here's what the part is and it was superseded 5189456AA

05080147AA 1 S 29 EGX SENDING UNIT, Temperature Gauge
The shop manual tells you how to take the unit out, so you obviously do not have to buy anything else.

Thanks to both of you! I don't know how the parts guy didn't know to drop the "0" !! Although, He'd never seen an SRT-6 before either..So I guess I should have known better!
I'll give a Mercedes dealer a try and see what happens. But it's at least a 2 hour drive for me to even get near one! Looks like I'll make a shopping list of anything and everything else I may need for the car and just get it all at once! Been putting off resealing the drivers side valve cover all summer..Was hoping for "cooler" weather. Oh well, My Crossfire has seemingly decided otherwise!

Hi, the main Chrysler dealer gave me the number 05189456AA for the level sensor and a price of about £115 here in UK. Cant seem to find a Mercedes number although there must be one. Hope that helps.
who has the manual to replace this, or a pdf doc? I leave in two days on a 6 hr drive, dont wanna drive with this like this. any help would be appreciated

We replaced the Oil Sending unit this weekend and here's the run down.
- Drain the oil... Duh
- Went to lunch with a friend. (leave Steve with the car to start working
) - After returning from lunch notice that Steve has already gotten the lower oil pan off and is almost done cleaning the liquid gasket off.
- Remove oil sending unit clip. (squeeze and pull) It's above the upper oil pan.
- Remove 4 bolts holding sending unit on and remove sending unit.
- Install new oil sending unit.
- Torque bolts down to 89 in lbs
- Get to work cleaning the liquid gasket off the upper oil pan.
- Drink a beer while Dillon (friend that went to lunch with me) start cleaning the liquid gasket off the upper oil pan
- Watch Steve use power tools to get the liquid gasket off the upper oil pan.
- Place RTV compound on the lower oil pan and put it back on the car.
- Realize I put one of the shorter bolts in the spot of one of the longer bolts
- Watch Steve figure out where I put the wrong bolt in while drinking another beer.
- Torque bolts down to 10 ft lbs... I think
- Re install splash sheild
- Wait an hour and fill it with oil
- Start car and get ready to leave just to realize I forgot to put the connector back on the new oil sending unit...
- Jack car back up
- Remove splash shield
- push connector back into the oil sending unit
- Replace Splash shield
- Lower car back down to the ground
- Leave

Appears that 006 153 27 28 is the Mercedes pn for all v6 and v8 1998 to 2006 listed on ebay for 117.50 + 7.50 shipping
