Default Tech Question For The Chip Reps...

Gentlemen:

This Q is for the reps of Upsolute, PowerChip, SuperChip, Renntech etc.

Have any of you mapped the chip for the SRT ?????

If you go to upsolute.com they have a thread talking about chipping the AMG... If memory serves me well... They said that AMG has already optomized the ECU.

Wes, I realize the AMG already has an optimized ECU, that was the whole point of the post.

The reason the chip is optimized is for the AMG/SRT Supercharger and the lower compression ratio.

Thus, now follow me if you can... If I were to put the AMG/SRT aftermarket supercharger / intercooler, reduce compression by 10%, run 7lbs of boost, and change nozzles, I am going to have to remap the ECU to the specs of the AMG engine to make it run properly.

The only way to do this is if one of the chippers have mapped the AMG/SRT protocols and can write it to my ECU.

Now back to my original question:

"This is for the Tuners, have any of your guys mapped the AMG/SRT ECU ?"

Oooo... man HDDP...

"This is for the Tuners..." That wasn't an attack the way I read it was it? ... because WM was here way F'ing longer then you have buddy... and you come on here speaking like that... thats BS....

now back to the original question... just get the ECU from a SRT then you won't have to worry... its all done with mapping... call Renntech or even Upsolute... they will be able to mirror copy one of the SRT or AMG's and use its programming...

I swear you better not have meant that as an insult to WM... cuz thats big time not cool...

and by the way... not many of the reps are on this site... so if you wanta talk to them... theres an invention called email or telephone...

No it wasn't an attack, why would I do that ? I hate boards, as the inflection and tone cannot be written... Although I did take a bit of offense to his answer that the AMG ECU is already optimized. I think I know that, that was why I was asking for the data.

Your answer was perfect, Can the SRT ECU be remapped into our "Standard" car. And, do "Any" of the other chip techs have that software ?

Renntech is an option, so is Meridian Auto design here in LA...But neither company is willing to flash the chip for free for promotional consideration on an auto mod. TV show.

I was wondering if any of the other guys had gotten a chance to flash the ECU from an SRT yet because I wanted to compare the #'s with the "Standard" car to see if I actually needed to do addtional mods when supercharging, ie. different cam stroke etc.

After all, it took me nearly a week to find out who manufactures the superchager and intercooler for the OEM SRT... And the only way I found out was through my contacts at the advert. agency who handles the DC account.

Thanks for sticking-up for Wes, I'm sure he'll appreciate it... But your concerns were un-warranted even though he called my car a ricer LOL

Read what I said again.... I didn't say your car was a ricer.... I said, IMO, the Momo stuff looks very ricer. Once again, JMO...

Renntech and Kleemann are the well known ones for Mecedes tweaks wit superchargers.. they should both have all the mappings for the SLK32 on hand - email them directly and see what kind of price you can work out for an ECU flash.

Let us know how much you can get the whold upgrade down too.. so far Kleenmann $9500.00 plus installation. If the parts are cheap enough I may be in luck due to a friend that races and has a shop

Thanks for the info marc, I am in the process of doing just that... Making an entire mod equipment list with prices and part #'s to replicate the SRT, directly from the manufacturers of the SRT upgrade parts so we can all upgrade in your garages if need be... I'm still missing three things but should have the info in a couple of weeks...

Considering the superchager takes 4 months to deliver from IHI since they normally only sell it to DC directly for the SRT supercharger, I figure I should have this figured out by then...

Both Renntech and Kleeman are great companies and have already done the R&D I am doing. So is a company called Meridian Automotive Design. I have a specific reason that I want to do it from scratch and build the mods myself here in LA...

if it's the mounts that your missing then you could go to a mercedes dealers parts department, look at the exploded view of the SLK32, get the mount part numbers and have them order those...

We may actually need the SRT or slk32 engine cover, but you probably wont know until you mount the SC...

Marc:
Actually I'm still missing the manufacturer for the SRT intercooler and plumbing... Although IHI has told me they would get it to me by next week.

Lastly the ECU data is probably going to be the most difficult as all the tuners who chip the AMG, guard their data very closely... And just because I can replicate the identical engine with the identical parts does not mean it will respond, or operate identically without f'ing-up the rest of the electronics in the car...

I'm still trying to get the info on how they reduced the compression ratio by 10%. I know why they did it, but how ? was it shorter stroke on the cam ? or different size pistons or ??? And do I even need to reduce the compression ratio to add the SC... Perhaps they decided to do it as a matter of longevity of the engine since it is a production car...

it has a different cam shaft and has different pistons... this is a full engine rebuild to do this..

the pistons for sure, it was either the cam or the crank that was different now that I think about it - I have the info from renntech and will confirm what they said tonight when I get home..

My honest opinion is.... and again this is JUST an OPINION.... It would cost a lot more to upgrade a standard or limited Crossfire to an SRT than it would cost to buy the SRT and have the butt ugly wing removed and something better looking installed and painted.

Don't get excited... it's just my opinion.

That's what I'm trying to determine with my research. I figure about a 13k differential between the standard and SRT...

So far I'm looking at nearly $7,000 in parts, but some things are still missing... Then figure-in labor costs @65.00 hr... It's looking like it might be a wash, And bear-in mind NO WARRANTY with the upgrade...

But it's still looking much better than the Renntech upgrade..

I posted this before but it may help here:

Thank you for contacting KLEEMANN USA! I have attached a full price list for your Chrysler Crossfire in Microsoft Word format. Our kompressor system for your Crossfire is priced at $9,500.00 plus installation.

Installation typically runs in the $1300.0 range, depending on which authorized dealer you choose. You can find a complete list of dealers on our website at www.kleemannusa.com. Click on the contacts link, then USA.

The KLEEMANN kompressor will increase HP to 330 and torque to 325 lb/ft. per Renntech:

"You have to rebuild the engine with lower compression pistons, special rods and crankshaft, then you have to add the same supercharger with intercooler that AMG uses, after that you need to do the electronics."

your already at 7k without the new pistons, rods and crankshaft? Kleeman's deal looks pretty good right now but it is a wash out compared to buying the srt6.

Default Cracking the engine and new internals....

I have to say the secret to forced induction is the tuning and flow rates.

Most go stand alone once you get to that level of need. Your most open chip tuners will have 20+ hours in a project like yours and charge close to $100 per hour for the work on the dyno. Even if you have standardized mapping and A/F windows you are looking at 10 hours minimum.

Stand alone will cost some to install however you can run and modify the standard conservative mapping to your liking without ruining your engine in the process.

I would say you may need new injectors FPR and Maf to run certain boost/mapping tables and that is another $1000 on the cheap side.

Call me if you need help.

Chris: Thanks for the info... Are you in the business or just voicing your technical opinion ?

I am looking for (as you may have read in the previous threads) a tuner who has mapped the Crossfire SRT specs for the ECU... Are you that person ?

Marc: Where did you get the info that the SRT had different pistons, cam, crank etc. ???? Is this speculation or the Rennetech mod ??? Thank you for that information... But, what has been done to the SRT engine to make it different from the standard model ??? I think I have most of it, but how did they achieve the 10% reduction in compression ???

Renntech stated they offer the 407hp setup because you have to replace all of these componets to make it a slk32 anyways...

that is a lot of stuff and a lot of work (balancing pistons etc..)...

Email Kleeman and ask what all parts are involved in their upgrade kit so we can see if they both jive.
