Default MIL Codes after washing car?

Ok, If I go thru a carwash or wash the car with a hose I get the MIL and misfire cylinder codes...today I got the 300, 306, 410, 133 codes.....my code reader can never seem to be able to reset the codes and within a few hours or the next dry day no light and no codes.....When I do get the misfire codes the car is actually misfiring....Anyone have a starting point on where to start.....I've only had the car a few months and love it....2004, auto, 52,000 kms....thanks in advance.

If there are 0's ahead of those codes (our cars throw FOUR DIGIT codes) then those are an interesting combination, based on the DTC list.

I take it you do not raise the hood to wash the car. LOL

Is this a trick question?

Same issue in the rain...misfire codes, runs like crap til it drys out....ptc module.....hmmmm, i wonder if water is getting in there....when i washed the car i never sprayed any water near the engine compartment...but did around the cowling....box is locked...i'll keep checking.....
Any reason the code reader cannot delete the code???

You should have put that in the first post.

I guess it is obvious something is getting wet. What amazes me is that it clears up after drying out. This tells me it probably is not getting to the circuit board(s), just connectors somewhere. I'd take the cover off the module box next to the battery and have a good look. And signs of water in there?

(That box holds the PowerTrain Control module, Relay Control Module and Body Control Module).

Sounds to me like the PTCM is being compromised in some way - I just cant imagine how water is getting in there even if the cover were off - unless you go to the car wash with the hood up!

Hey........................ here's a clue - the battery ground cable fastens down to a bolt on that wall... I wonder about that connection, water COULD trickle down the side of the wall onto that lug, I guess.

This is an odd one.

How soon after do you try and reset the codes?

If the fault still exists can it be cleared? The ignition is on and the sensors will still be finding a fault. It may be like trying to re-inflate a tire before the puncture is repaired.

No it would not, get them reset properly and start again.

Alright, but if the code reader will not reset them and disconnecting the battery will not reset them, what is the proper way to do it????

I've had codes pop up twice, they went away both times with several starts. I was under the impression that ALL codes go away after you fix the problem, THEN, start and drive the car a few times.

As to my Ultragauge, it does clear codes and will turn the light off. Get ya an Ultragauge OR just drive the car.

Page 25-37 of the Manual under "ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS" it tells you that a DRBII will erase the codes.

But again, depending on the code, they will go away on their own.

"After three good trips, the MIL is turned off. DTCs are erased following 40 warm-up cycles if the component does not fail again."

But I'm sure you can take it to your dealer and they will clear the codes ... for probably $60 to $150

My local guy does it for free.
