Hi everyone.

I have had an ongoing issue with my '04 XF, 5-speed: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ease-help.html.

About a week after I started the above mentioned thread, my husband replaced all 4 of the wheel/speed sensors (sorry, not up to date with the correct terminology), drove the car to and from the local market (about 10 miles roundtip), still every single light is on. We changed the battery, and I checked all over the car for any water issues, corrosion, etc.

Still have these problems:
ABS, low brake light, BAS/ESP, handbrake and check engine lights still on.
TPMS light on, and has stayed on even after I had new TPMS replaced (tire shop says I have to take it to a dealership to reset).
NO speedometer
Spoiler stays up (though light is blinking)
Car does not feel rough, runs smooth, shifts well.

I stopped driving the car a few days later, when my husband headed out to his ship for an extended assignment, pulled out the battery (we do this for his Camaro as well), and I've been using our backup, which I love but is a gas hog. I simply did not want to risk damaging the car further and getting stranded between home and worlk.

Fast forward to now: Hubs is due home next week so repairs on my XF are near the top of his Honey-Do list. I checked the battery, installed it, car starts easily, drove it around, no driving problems, but those ^T^$#*&^)*( lights are still on, still no speedometer. spoiler is up. I checked the tire pressure on all 4 tires, all fine.

Because all our cars are divas (my XF, hubs' Jag XK8 and '69 Camaro, and our BMW X5), he bought a really nice OBD3 reader that is supposed to (and does) read codes for all the computer-equipped cars). I attached the reader to the XF (I will add the list of error codes that popped up; I wrote them down and they are stil sitting on my kitchen table)

According to a lot of threads here, seems the ABS module is toast, and it will need to be replaced. I jotted down the part number (since I understand that it is specific for the '04 year), went to one dealership who gave me a quote of $500+/- to replace it, about $250 if I got the part on my own and had them install it.

The other dealership parts and service MANAGER went conviniently deaf and blind when I told him about the errors list and showed it to him, mentioning that I would need to leave the car at the dealership for a few days so they could run it through diagnostics, and then give me a list of what they just know will be wrong with my car and which will probably need to be fixed before even getting to the no speedomter thing (yup, not heading back there).

My (finally!) question/request for advice: According to hubs, the ABS module is almost like a plug-n-play, so technically it should not be too hard to install on our own. BUT would I need to stil take it to a dealership so they can reprogram it to the car?

I really want to be able to drive this car again but until I get all those pesky lights taken care of, she won't pass inspection.

Any advice, suggetions? Referrals to anyone in south TX that could reprogram this thing and NOT take several days and/or cost over $250?

 

Plug and play.
I'm not convinced that is the problem though.
Please give specific codes.

And yes, I'm clueless: plug and play means no need to deal with those %$&^% at the dealership, right? (In the hopeful case that the specific codes will lead back to something that I CAN just plug and play)

 

Did you ever discover what the solution to this was, my wifes 05 is doing the same thing and would like to get it fixed. BAS,ESP,ASP,BRAKE,TPMS,CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS all lit, spoiler up and flashing, no speedometer, odometer, and the top obviously will not work.

 

Looks like he sold the car last year.

 

So is that saying that the repair is so expensive it's easier to sell it?
