Default P0141 and P0161 Codes

I've had my Crossfire for about a year now and have always had a CEL for both rear O2 sensors - there were a lot of codes like no activity, high voltage, low voltage, etc.... Before I put it back on the road this year, I decided to fix it. After getting under there, I saw that the previous owner had used the AutoZone universal O2's and the connectors look like they were from something he had lying around - they were spliced in on both sides of the connector.

So after much searching, I got the OEM connectors from a Mercedes dealership and bought OEM style AC Delco O2 sensors. I neatly spliced them back into the engine harness, using the wiring diagram/color codes from the service manual.

Now I have only the 0141 and 0161 codes - heater circuit malfunction on both rear sensors. It seems odd to me that it's both and the likelihood of getting two new sensors with bad heater elements seems slim. I've checked and have 12.9-13V to the O2 sensor plugs, but haven't tested them under load because I don't have the tools to do so where I am now.

Is there anything else I should be looking for or common problems with this?

Clearly you have the intellect and mechanical ability to maintain this vehicle, your answer is within the wiring schematic and service manual it's just going to take a little thought and a little digging to find it. I personally stay as far away from the Chrysler dealer as possible. This forum and the crossfire owners on it through their experience have saved me more money then I can shake a stick at, the last time I relied on the dealer for anything was to have the convertible top replaced under warranty. You do as you please but I personally from experience trust the members of this forum.

For someone who joined this forum 2 months ago, you sure inject a lot of negativity into your posts. I don't know what is bothering you, but if you have nothing but snide comments to add then maybe you should shut up and troll for a while (maybe you might learn something). Just about every member knows not to take this car to the dealership until time tested solutions are gone over by those who have fixed them consistently from information presented here in this forum. Try to open your mind, sit back and peruse the many solutions that has saved people probably hundreds of thousands (maybe more) dollars in totality. Judge Judy has a pretty good saying, you have two ears for a reason, exercise the listening over the speaking (just convert the saying to 'chatspeak'). I hope you get much help when you have problems with your car(s). If your independently wealthy (or just a Chrysler parts manager who has access to 'free' parts and diagnostic tools/equipment), you may not need the services available here. So, can you take a little time off the keyboard typing, and read a few thousand posts? You might see people actually do help many. Hope to (not) hear from you for a while...

Having seen a couple of his post.. his "satisfaction" is opening his wallet.. Doesn't have 1 iota of the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Well, c'mon you guys - his user name says it all.

I suspect I know who this is, and an IP search will reveal that what we have here is a sock puppet. Personally, I am enjoying his posts.

I find no room for shame by fixing my car instead of giving it to the dealer.. Makes for more vacations.. Like Las Vegas in April?

There's no need for negativity here! Many of us enjoy working on our cars as opposed to throwing our money away by letting a dealer who doesn't have someone trained on the Crossfire. If you want to do so, go ahead, I will continue to rely on this forum and all the helpful people here for my solutions. And if I'm able to leave something to help my daughter or grandchildren, then I will feel very good about that.

"His" name .. listed as female.. which more than answers the "I need the dealer" syndrome ...

True! Only 1 check of the monthly checks was 100K... but we're suffering through. But thanks for your concern.

Nope... just those trickle wells.. Enjoy your work week.. Make sure you get some overtime in for that dealer oil change coming up.

And as they say.. God Bless Texas..

I have enjoyed using the forum to learn more about the crossfire and save money from much higher dealer costs. I know I am new to the forum but have sent the RCM out to get fixed and replaced my own cps thanks again to the forum. I also believe that it should be ok for someone to choose to go a dealer for repairs or try to fix their problems if they choose to do so. In the end I don't however believe it serves any if us any good if we should denigrate either for choosing their particular solution to a problem regardless of their income level.

OK, here's a good example of DIY vs dealer :
I just replaced both crap Infinity subwoofers in my roadster for a total cost of $52.
At the dealer, that would have been somewhere north of $500 and you would STILL have the crap Infinity's.

Hey George did you find new subwoofers that fit or find replacements from another Crossfire?

They did not fit without some modifications to the plastic holder assembly.
I installed Pyle PLPW6D 6.5'' 600 Watt Dual Voice Coil 4 Ohm Subwoofers.
The magnets on these puppies are about 3 times larger than the original Infinity's.

( easy way to do the hacking : drill around the area with a 1/4" bit as close together as you can, then use wire cutters to clip between the drill holes. Easy peasy Japanesy.
It ain't pretty, but it's all hidden so it does not matter. )
