Hi, new here, trying to help a friend fix her "baby"..
battery dies in a few days, hooked up amp meter, ran the lines outside the car, closed hood and waited for everything to go to sleep. after all this, consistent 200mA draw.
started pulling fuses, found fuse 9 makes it go away. the tow sensor and BCM is on that circuit, disconnected both but no change.
what next? disconnected the alternator because it's being replaced anyway, no change. the alarm siren gets power from fuse9 but really? is that it?
I'm wondering what would be the next logical thing to check before taking the whole car apart.

 

Most likely the batteries have burst in the siren module and screwed up the circuit board.
You can :
A. Get a new one and replace it.
B. Just unplug it and drive on.

thanks for the replies. wiper removal was challenging, soaking in PB blaster and using the puller below finally worked. unplugged the alarm module and waited, went from 200 to less than 20.
you guys are awesome, thanks again.
now the only task left is curing the no-crank, I'm hoping RCM solder reflow will solve that.

 

Glad to help !
Get back with a full very detailed of the conditions regarding the no start / no crank and you will get lots of advise.
But if your description is ambiguous, pizzaguy will be on you like a chicken on a June bug.

PSD Thank you for reporting back to the form on the cause of your battery drain issue. This issue was discussed back in October and the question was raised regarding falling NiMH batteries in the alarm/siren module and the possibly of draining the car's battery. Your post has confirmed this to be fact and something that others should strongly consider when they have similar battery drain issues.

"I have always been curious on how and when the rechargeble batteries in the alarm/siren are recharged. Is the car battery continuously charging the alarm/siren even when the car is off or does it only occur when the car is running? If it's the later, then what happens when the car is in winter storage, or the car has a dead battery. How do these factors effect the longevity of the rechargable alarm/siren batteries? It is assumed that cars in hotter climates will have their batteries degrade faster."

 

re-flowing the solder joints on the RCM solved the no crank condition, but not the joints shown in the pictures of the tutorial. they had issues on 3 joints near 1 corner of the board, but my problem was the center relay area. I knew the problem was there because that relay was intermittent.
