Default Crank position senser

Okay my car is stalling and won't start it'll crank but not start. In first gear it stalls ( it is been doing this for about3 weeks). It stalled out and then I couldn't crank it. I replaced the cam shaft sensor position because I thought that was the problem. It still won't start though. I use a off brand one, and I read on here that there's only one brand that really works well. Could that new sensor be bad because it's a off brand, or is the cps not the problem?

The symptoms you describe are usually caused by the crankshaft position sensor. Is that the one you replaced, or was it the camshaft sensor? Bosch is the recommended brand. There are threads here about replacing the crankshaft sensor.

I'm sorry it was the crank shaft sensor. Yeah, this form is awesome it helped me get it out in about 20 minutes. I just thought even offering would at least work for a little while though.

For future reference use only Bosch cam and crankshaft position sensors. Other brands have been DOA.
The failed parts may not fit the socket on the harness properly, due to loose fits.

So I have a spare CPS that is from Hella. Is it also highly suspect?

If it isn't Bosch it isn't worth keeping
No other CPS has proven reliable

Not to sling mud at any of our vendors, but Needwings still shows the Hella CPS as an option to the Bosch. Has anyone approached Needswings about discontinuing this CPS sensor. Would be interested in hearing from Needswings on this issue. Seems unlikely that Needswings would sell a CPS to us that has a history (Forum experience) of being unreliable. Just curious.

Ok the new crankshaft sensor is installed and still no start. I tried jumping it off after the new sensor was in just in case the battery was low after trying to start it with the old sensor. Any ideas I need to look into now?

A bad crankshaft sensor will not keep it from cranking over. I don't know all the circuits that are controlled by the RCM, but that is suspect on a lot of issues.

1) Sounds like it stalled and the starter would not engage (crank) - resoldering of the RCM is usually the fix. This is almost CONFIRMED if you get in, turn key to 'on' then to start, if the starter won't engage, let key go back to "on" - does engine fan speed up to warp speed in 30 seconds? If so, the RCM is at fault.
Could not crank it? What does that mean? The starter would not engage at all? Or the started engaged and spun engine over but it didn't start? I THINK It means the starter wouild not engage at all. Fix the RCM or get a new one.

If the starter won't engage and spin the engine over, the cam and crank sensors are not the issue and you have wasted a lot of time here.

If the starter IS engaging and the car won't start or won't run right, then suspect:
Crank Sensor
Lousy fuel quality
Cam sensor
Low fuel pressure
Bad MAF/IAT module
Bad Throttle body
