Troubleshooting & Technical Questions & ModificationsHave technical or modification questions about the Crossfire?
Find out the answer, or give advice in here!
Hello fellow Crossfire Warriors! This is my first post after owning my Crossfire for 10 years with no issues. Now having the infamous no start condition. I have read the other posts and have a new RCM ordered and moving on to Cam/Crank sensor replacement next (potentially), but wanted to post where I am in the process for potential help:
Current Symptoms- Turn ignition on, all dashboard warning lights come on, engine does not turn over, battery fully charged and less than two years old, engine fan does not come on after ~30 seconds with key in on position. Checked RCM fuses, re-solder 3 common points on RCM, no change. Checked battery ground, no issues. Small fan in compartment where RCM sits runs with key in on position.
The Past
Recently having issue where would not start right away. Would try to start, nothing, try again, then after 3-4 times would start up. Last time the car ran it started acting up as I took it out of the garage (dashboard lights on), drove it back into the garage, diagnosed alternator failure as it would idle fine but ran battery dead, then would not go out of Park. Replaced alternator and started up once, same issue at that time, would not shift out of park. Now no start even after 5-6 times of trying to start.
"Engine does not turn over". So, you are saying the starter does not engage? If the engine control relay output is missing from the RCM, the starter won't engage but the engine fan will warp up to high speed.
If the fan does not speed up but the starter won't engage, I'd go with low voltage to the ECU or Pulse modules. In this case, I would suspect, in descending order:
Battery
Battery ground cable, battery cable terminals
Jumper from Chassis to Block
Just to eliminate suspicion of a failing screem, unhook the negative battery connector for a few minutes and try to start again. If it tries to start but dies three times then nothing it could possibly be the screem module. If nothing happens still then that one potential problem can be eliminated.
Open the RCM. Turn the key to the ON position.
2 of the middle 3 relays should stay closed (engage). If only 1 stays closed, you probably have a bad relay.

Only the center relay closed on RCM (one not two). No scoring/damage/wear noted on any relay. Other than replacing a relay or RCM anything else at this point?

Thanks and good step in troubleshooting.

Looks like the traction control relay is bad. Try this:
With the RCM open, turn the key to the ON position. Pinch the traction relay closed and have someone turn the key to the START position to see if she starts (keep the traction relay held closed).
You can use a rubber band to keep the relay closed. Just don't close the relay until AFTER the key is in the ON position. Pretty sure she'll start.
I refurbish RCMs and can replace your relays if this is the problem. Email tighed1@hotmail.com for the details.

You were right. She started right up! The residual issue now is rear spoiler is still up in the air. I will contact you on the rebuild for RCM.
It is clear this Crossfire is just one closed connection away from getting out of the garage....thank you.
i have the exact same issue. I have had the relay board re soldered same issue. I got it started finally but it died. I note now that the ESP BAS light is staying on. Checked that both relays stayin opperated. All relays except horn and Air are operated when running
