Default P23XX Codes w/ P240C & P2404

Fellow XF owners,

Happy ‘22! I hope you and yours are safe and well! I’m looking forward to getting out this summer and meeting up with you and all the other owners.

You all have been so helpful with routine maintenance, replacing cam and crank sensors, and my biggest undertaking, swapping the gearshift unit when coffee was spilled on it last summer on my way to a XF meet up in WI last year and bricked the car. …..for those of you unaware, a tip moving forward: Practice Gremlins Rule #2! …DO NOT GET IT WET. …impose a no drink rule in the car.

On to my problem…

I have a 2004 LTD Coupe Auto 54000mi Eurocharged Tune summer only, car shows and ice cream runs only. Moving on…. This past October when I put the car away for winter I ran a scan and produced the following codes:

P2300
P2311
P2312
P2313
P2315
P2316

P240C

P2404

Since putting “SRV” (Nickname for the car as a nod to Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Crossfire”) to bed in October, I’ve been scouring and researching this site and several other Merc forums to find out what these codes are and how to resolve.

I can’t for the life of me find resolution to this codes so I come to you once again.

Has anyone had the same codes thrown and what was your fix?

Thank you guys and girls, for all your tips, tricks, and fixes. It means a lot to me and SRV.

Be safe. Be well.

From the Mercedes Medic website those all seem to be CAN communications and some are related to the old problem with your shift lever.
If they are all stored codes vice active I would clear them all and forget about it.
After you drive the car again come this spring run the diagnostics and see if any come back.

With some codes, the only way you can find what they mean is to use google (or duck-duck-go) and enter:

Mercedes SLK320 Pxxxx code
For an SRT, change it to "SLK32AMG".

While our list of DTCs here on this site works for most codes, we are missing some. Also, I find that reading several links (NOT just one site's text) that result from the search will usually teach me a lot abotu how to interpret what could set that particular code off. Just always keep in mind that your car is a 2003 Mercedes SLK320 with a few "tweaks" that set it apart from a REAL SLK320; but most of the time, the SLK320 answers apply to your car.

Thank you for the insight, guys. I appreciate it!

It’s reassuring to know that it could be the replaced gear shift unoriginal to the car throwing the codes.

“SRV” is in offsite heated storage so I’ll wait until spring to address the issue, see if those codes reappear after deleting them or if they’re stuck with the car. I was hoping to get it resolved before driving season.
