Default Central locking doesn't work right after the car is turned off

Hey everyone, I need your technical help

I bought my first Crossfire 3 weeks ago, amazing car, loved it since minute one.. However the central locking is not being too friendly with me.

If the car is stationary for a while, the central locking works with no problem. But when I park the car after a ride or turn the key to the second position, the car refuses to lock with key.
I found out, that it takes approximately 40 minutes until it lets me use the key locking again. Also, locking with the button inside the car works everytime with zero problems.

I replaced the central locking pump yesterday for a used one, but nothing changed:')
Batteries in the key fob has been replaced for a fresh pair.

Also- the alarm has been most likely tampered with (somehow plugged off or rusted), as it doesn't work. I actually don't mind it not working, but I'm thinking it could be a clue..
Some technical stuff- 2004 coupe, 155k km (96k miles), central locking pump replaced, two button keyfob

Thank you for taking your time to help me
(English is not my first language, please be patient with me:-) )

mpil31. That may be the correct response from the car. I do not think locking the car with the key in the 2nd position is acceptable.

What type of car? Coupe or convertible/roadster? ? ?

I will check that out on my car tomorrow. You should remove the key, for the car to lock.

Why would you do that ??? Perhaps something is not correct with the language conversion ?

Welcome to the forum.

Hello and thank you. I'm sorry, I wasn't really good with my explanation on the key in 2nd position.

My crossfire is 2004 roadster, and I, of course, didn't try using the locking this way, it wouldn't make any sense

What I meant is that turning the key to the 2nd position is the step, that makes the car not want to lock for an hour or so.. I'm thinking, that some component wakes up when the electricity is provided and that disables the central locking system..
If I walk to my car right now, it will lock and unlock with the key no problem, because I didn't mess with it today.. but if i would go and turn the key to the 2nd position, or start the engine and drive somewhere, I would be screwed and I would have to go back to the car an hour later just to lock it to be sure nobody takes stuff from my trunk or steals my gas (i lock the passenger door with the latch and driver door with the key).

Just to add- I love my crossfire so much.. That's why I didn't gave up on it.. It also has other issues, mainly with blowers not wanting to work, but I think I know whats wrong and I will work on it, when I have more cash.. These cars aren't really cheap here in central Europe..

"(i lock the passenger door with the latch and driver door with the key)."

Why? The FOB should do this. If the FOB is not locking / unlocking the car, you have a number of possible problems.

Can you raise the top as that would prevent theft?

Getting the car back to pristine like new condition may be expensive. I'm looking for an acceptable solution.

This is difficult because there is no know history for the car. How many people have owned it and what have they done to the car ?

Many questions; Please use the search box in the upper right corner of the forum and click here for more info trouble solutions

Welcome to the forum!! We would like to help. There are many inter related pieces to this puzzle. Have fun AND enjoy your Crossfire!

I wish I could give you a simple fix, but there are many possibilities: PLEASE read through the info that pertains to your situation. Perhaps you just need to close the top, lock with the button on the console and then exit the car?

I am really really sorry, but I made a mistake. I meant coupé, not a roadster! Not convertible, but good old solid roof. Sorry, sorry, sorry! Not doing the best on my very first thread!

Thank you, I will continue with my search here. first thing was trying to change the central locking pump to see, if that messes with the key fob locking , but nothing changed, as I wrote before.

My next suspicion is, that there's a leak somewhere in the vacuum locking lines and that messes with the pressures and the pump (?)..
I'm just thinking loud, but I will continue searching. Can't be the first one with this problem

Thanks for your time:-)

Hi MPIL31,
If both the drivers and passengers doors lock and unlock by using the button in the console, then your pressure lines are okay. If only the passenger door locks with the fob, and the drivers door locks with the key, it might be a pressure line. One way to check is to swap the lines at the CLP. If the driver's side door still doesn't lock/unlock then you might have a leak. We can go into more details on how to fix that if that's the case.
