How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
Re: How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
That's actually a good question. Some of the forum members have found M-B parts that fit their XF's perfectly.
I suggest you visit your local M-B dealer with the XF VIN and ask if they can order the laser cut key for you. If they can, the programming instructions are in the forum -- do a search.
Let us know the outcome. This may/may not be a cost savings for others. I know I paid Chrysler $140 just for a key.

uote=Cissy]So, this would work on those keys that sell on Ebay for Crossfires?[/quote] No ebay keys do not wk. Keys can be programmed only 1 time must be by dealer using your vin # You can program to open doors etc but not to start car. Need key programmed and cut see forum member sowardcustoms Key about 114.00 + shipping . I got one! Ebay keys are only good if you need to replace outer case. See post 20% off parts for key.

Thank you so much for posting the "how to program". I bought a key from the Chrysler dealer for my 2005 X-Fire Roadster for 108.00. They wanted to charge me 40.00 to program it. They were giving me dealer cost. Thanks to you, I just went out to my car and programmed it myself!! You are awesome!!

I just want to thank you for providing this information for all X-Fire lovers.
I changed the batteries in my remote recently and the keyless entry feature stopped working. I figured I should look at this forum first before taking it to the dealer. The wisest decision I've made today.
Thanks again.

Re: How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
So I treid this the other day.
I have replaced the batteries on both of my remotes...and so they weren't working properly.
I tried this with both remotes and could not get this to work... I am confused...
...any tips/techniques to add to the original DIY Procedure???

i guess i'll try it again tonight... i wonder if the car needs to be off for a certain period of time before I can program the key? Does the door need to be shut? All of these other variables.
No clue... back to trying it over and over again.

a) yes, i checked the batteries...because i honestly thought i could have put them in wrong too..
b) yes, both keys do in fact start the car, as well as unlock the car with the key inserted in the driver's side door handle.
c) no, none of the buttons work on either key.
d) see above.
thanks for any help/advice/suggestions. i have been just licing with the fact that i have to put the key into the driver's side door to lock/unlock the car and have been doing so for a while. when i saw this thread, i'd figure i'd actually raise an issue with it...so here we go...

Ok let's try again. Check and make sure you are using CR2025 batteries. Did you replace both batteries?
Very important. The system may have to be resynchronized if the transmitter is without voltage for several minutes. To synchronize, aim the tramsmitter eye on the remote at the vehicle and briefly press the Lock or Unlock button twice. Within approximately 30 secs, insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position. The remote should be operational.

I will try it again this afternoon by pressing lock/unlock prior to inserting the key in the ignition... hmm wonder if that will do it. (yes, both batteries ar CR2025, though I can't remember if I replaced both of them when I replaced them a couple months ago)
