Do you want a Keyless Entry Alert Tone?
Excellent write-up. Used the 059 buzzer on my '04 Crossfire.
Mounted it inside the fuse box and it's easy enough to hear as long as there's not a lot of surrounding noise.
Thanks!

Got my crossfire a couple of weeks ago and stumbled across the forum. Tons of great info. I don't know a ton about electrical stuff, but was able to follow the instructions in this tread pretty easily. The problem is my chime is very faint. I got the -060 chime from RS and mounted it outside the fuse box. I can barely hear it even when standing right next to the car. Any hints? TIA.

Many on the Forum have had a defective factory siren replaced under warranty and ended up with a keyless chirp as an end result. Some have replaced the siren on their own. You can do a search for part numbers. Apparently, the original sirens didn’t provide that function, but the new off the shelf version does?

If you replace the factory siren with a new updated version, you will more than likely get a keyless tone/chirp sound when locking and unlocking. However, it is much cheaper and easier (I think) to do the Radio Shack tone-buzzer mod given at the start of this thread with about the same results! If you want to increase the sound, just buy a more powerful Radio Shack tone buzzer (higher dB's).

The short version is that you install a 12 VDC low current ‘tone’ buzzer across the coil of the Remote Keyless Entry Relay. This is the relay that blinks the front & rear signal lights 1 time when the doors are unlocked and 3 times when locked by the remote. The buzzer needs to be installed in parallel with the relay coil, not the relay contacts. If installed across the contacts, it would make noise anytime the lights are on! Not what we want!
Figure 1 attachment is a wiring diagram of the ‘Tone’ Buzzer installation.
I used a Radio Shack Piezo Buzzer (P/N 273-059, Picture 1 attached). It is a very small and gives off a not so loud 2700 Hz tone that is audible, but not obnoxious, and it only consumes 10ma of current (.010 amps). Radio shack has a wide variety this type of buzzer. They give off various sounds at various volumes depending on which one is used. I also, tried a 273-060. It was louder than I wanted and a bit higher in frequency but is also a good choice. Here’s a link to the Radio Shack stuff:

I picked one of the cheap ones at the bottom of the list. It needs to be capable of operating at 12 VDC. I recommend a low current type. Say 50ma or less, just because that’s all I tried, and it will be installed in parallel with the relay coil, not the contacts. Anyway, you could experiment with different sounds to get what you want. I just found that the little cheap one met my needs. See the next post (after SVO's Reply
)for more about the installation with more pictures and diagrams.

V,
THanks for the vid. BTW what was the number on the device that you purchased from RS. I think that yours has just the right volume.
Thnx'

Thanks Corfire,
Going to do the "Alert Tone" this weekend. Plan to attach it outside the cover with Velcro. Great job with the attachments. If anyone can't follow what you did they need to be taken off life support. Just got my Crossfire last Friday in Ft. Myers. I love it!!

While it does work, I noticed that when it got cold, it became intermittent and then stopped working all together. I reset the fuse and it reset for about a half day but is once again not working reliably. May have to add some stronger wire and maybe better protection for the "buzzer".

Best Place?
Same place as the buzzer, Radio Shack.
My project this weekend will be puttig in the capacitors on the Mid Range speakers to push the bass to the rear (behind seat) speakers.
Another great forum idea!!!!
Also thinking about a murcury switch controlled light for under the hood. Anyone with an Idea?

I just want to say thank you for the information. I did this simple install last weekend and took me all of 5 minutes to do! I went with the 273-060 sounds great! Thanks again
