Yep I also installed the 273-060 buzzer, and I moved it outside the fuse box. I can hear nothing when the buzzer sit inside the fuse box in a noisy environment, now it works perfect. Attached a picture how I connect the wire to the outside of the fuse box, I think this is the best way to do it, going through one of the rubber outlet so no chance for the water to get in the fuse box (the white wire)

i just bought my Xfire recently and noticed that there was no sound when I locked the car....made me nervous and I kept double checking to make sure it was locked (I'm sure my FOB battery would be dead within a matter of weeks).
Anyway I bought the buzzer at radio shack and followed the posted instructions (really easy...works great).
I left the buzzer hanging outside of the cover because the tone was really really weak otherwise.
Thanks much....I'm still learning my car.

Well, right next to it there is a bit of a slit that matches up with the clip that secures the lid. I just laid the wires into that slit and, using a bit of 3M double sided tape, stuck the buzzer to the inner body panel adjacent to the fuse box. The lid still snapped into place as before the install.
I agree with Mike...I did the same thing when I was trying to figure out the best way to route the buzzer outside of the fuse box.

Yes, that certainly is an option, if you want a horn honk. You are then using the relay contacts to operate the horn, instead of the voltage across the relay coil to make the tone buzzer sound. I suggest that you make a very good connection (solder or crimp), because the horn will require much more current (several amps instead of just milliamps). Just wrapping the wire for the horn, as I did for the low current buzzer might (probably will) create a high resistance connection resulting in heat at that connection. That was and is one of my concerns about operating the horn with the keyless entry relay. Making a connection to the wire running to the receptacle for #87 would be the best way to connect if you can find it under the fuse box. Working with the higher current devices requires very good electrical connections.

I did the install today. Thanks for the information! I went with the 059 buzzer, but may go back to get the 060. It is on the quiet side with the hood down.

I took a spare relay, opened it and soldiered the wires directly to the coil hook up.

Thanks again, James

I agree that the 060 is a better choice than the 059. I will probably change mine sometime as I have a bit of trouble hearing the 059 in a noisy parking lot. I'm impressed with the way you made connection to a relay. You could actually solder to the pins on the bottom. However, the way you did it is very professional looking.

I did it! WOW! Nice mod. Cheap too. I know that you can change out the main horn and get the same effect, but the buzzer is so different it really sounds better. Thanks for the info to do this mod!

Nothing like hearing car horns beeping at 4:00am.

Now that is pretty funny. I bet you about crapped yourself when the horn started honking for no reason!

Default A Little Change...

I liked this but wanted to be able to turn off the buzzer anytime I want. And I wanted the buzzer to be protected from moisture but not inside the fuse panel. So I made a little project enclosure with the buzzer, switch, and for diagnostic purposes, an indicator lamp.

I borrowed a couple pictures from this thread - let me know if it's a problem and I will replace them with my own.

PERFECT! 10 minutes to install including soldering, shrink tubing and installation. All for under five bucks. It's a perfect and simple solution to an annoying problem without having to spend a lot of money on a new siren.

Thanks for the great post and crystal clear installation instructions. Perfect beep to let you know the car is locking with out having to look at the headlights!

I mounted mine under the cowl just above the fuse box to protect it a little form car wash over spray.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
