PWR Windows and Germans
With winter coming on i thought i would post this little Caviat about German Cars.
I have owned a few, mostly Benzes and my brother is a VW freak. Several friends have Bimmers and VW's.
Perhaps our sampling is an anomaly but the windows come loose from ther regulator tracks. By comparing notes, we have come to the conclusion that it seems to be the result of trying to open the window in icy conditions. It may be that the Bedding glue used to hold them gets brittle in the cold. Repair is simple but annoying.
Has anyone else observed this?
In any event, I would recommend caution when trying to lower your windows if they are iced. Let them thaw a bit.
Don't use the drive up. Get out and walk. Sorry

Maybe the Germans need better glue as you suggest.

All had the same window failure at about 12 years of age.
Never happened in any of my American cars.
i see nothing in our Xfires that is engineered any different. perhaps the adhesive is.(?)

When I had my Eclipse... I also had a problem like this. Only instead of it being the cold, it was the heat. The fact is, in the Eclipse they were held on with some type of tar. In the heat, it actually melted... and persisted to drip on automatic lock actuator... lol. Imagine that problem. I had to rip my door apart to fix it. And it was actually some what of a common problem.
my eclipse would cry the black stuff all the damn time took it to the show every week or so until there removed it all and replaced it with something that didn't suck. after messing up 3-4 pairs of nice pants that is
I had a Camaro that did that, on both driver and passenger side. Was told by the dealership it was caused by people closing the door by pushing on the window. And since there is no support around the top of the window I guess it just torqued it out.
Had that happen to me in my old 1988 Cougar and it's happening on three of the windows on my wife's 2004 Sonata. She's bringing the car in this week to have the problem fixed. Great to have a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.
I don't know about Glue holding the window in the tracks? But when I replaced my Jeep window, it had holes in the glass at the bottom that were pushed into two plastic bolts. Anbd they've never come apart. I accidentally broke the window when throwing out a bottle. Expensive mistake.
