Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Don't be too impressed, these people are worthless, I've been here three years this Saturday - and they still haven't explained women to me.
It's like a secret they are all keeping from me.

You have to pay
attention and do as your told for a satisfactory outcome...
some listen.. some do it the hard way..
Okay, feeling like a true doofus now. I have reassembled the ignition switch and made sure all connectors are secure. Key turns over like a dream, everything comes on except the car won't start. It won't even engage the starter. It feels like some sensor is preventing the circuit from closing.
Can it be I'm a victim of the one-two punch -- sticky ignition followed immediately by RCM module failure? I hope not.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. The black ring around the key is an antenna - the SKREEM communicates with the module in the key - it's an anti-theft thing.
Are you SURE the black ring has it's little wires attached right? Is the ring positioned like it was before?
(The answer to the first question is probably the important one.)
This has come up before. The key turning the switch turns all the power on, but in order for the starter to engage, that ring's wires must be connected !

I need to replace this ignition myself and appreciate your information on how to do it but the pictures you posted are no longer there, or I cannot access them. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sending them again or tell me how I can get them. Thanks. Mike

Awesome. Worked like a charm. The key turns better then it ever has (had problems since I purchased the car 4 years ago). Anyways, after putting everything back togther and reconnecting the battery, the car starts fine, EBS turned off, but the airbag light is now on. Before i did anything it was not. I have drove about 50 miles since the fix and it is still on. Suggestions for why? I reconnected everything that I had un done. Is it possible that I knocked a wire loose?
Ok, now THAT is a new one.
You might try disconnecting the battery for about 2 or 3 minutes. Other than that, I got nothing. I'm on the move this evening, will be most of the weekend, but I'll try to look the manual over and see what I can find.
Anyone else wanna chime in?

I'm in Australia and can count on one hand the amount of Crossfires I've seen around town, and when my steering locked, I was thinking I'd be spending a fortune to find someone to fix it. But thanks to you guys I was able to print out that awesome pdf of the step by step instructions on how to fix it and gave it to my Dads Cobra Auto Electrician/Mechanic/All around Macguyver and he had it done in 2 hours. Mine didn't have anything replaced. I'm a single girl who covers some decent k's and I don't want it to happen again far from home, and it doesn't worry me that it doesn't lock anymore. I do have a question however.
Does the Crossfire have a timing belt or a timing chain? My other car (Pajero Io) did itself some serious damage when the belt broke (my bad, Mum had cancer and a few other things going on, should've changed it 10000ks before it went) and I live in fear of another engine rebuild. I can't see anywhere in the service schedule on when to change it so was thinking it must be a chain. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
My Crossfire is an 04 with 80000kms on it, just had its 4th service. Having the two cars, means neither really does much work, fingers crossed they both last twice as long

It is a timing CHAIN, not a belt, no scheduled service interval.
Should be good for half a million K's, if oil change intervals are maintained .....

Been gone all weekend. Let us know what you find.
Thanks to this pictures a mecanic who didnt want to help me in the beggining was able to fix my car like 3 weeks ago,car that was almost 5 months out the street, mecanic thought he didnt fix it because the oring sensor around the ignition wasnt on,so he called me and told me key turns now but car does not start, that he was sure was gas pump not working ,when I got to my car I notice the oring sensor loose so I put it on and car is now running, mecanich who wasnt there any more I will tell him in about 5 months.
