Thanks Pizzaguy, I checked again and mine locked too. I was a little to easy when i did initial check. I'm going to look closer in the a.m. to see if i can find any sign that the mod was done.

whats up with 80 mph on this car. currently have a crankshaft sensor error CEL when i go past 80mph. just shuts off. im clueless on that but itll have to wait as tomorrow ill be drilling. that is if i can beat the rain & i'll deal with the humidity. (central Florida)
Question: can i take the main electrical harness off after ive drilled???? that baby doesnt wanna budge.......
Also, if u drill a little bit of the area around the pin, will the ignition be floppy once i put it all back together???? Thanks in advance.

Well, I am having the worst month for my Crossfire. 2005 convertable. It's been rock solid for me up till now. But within the last two weeks I have had one battery go bad, which was less than 2 years old, and now the dam key switch is locked.
The car is stuck at work. It locked up on Thursday as I was leaving work. I have blisters trying to get it started. Cold not get a rental car in time on Friday to get to work.
Between the battery and now this key switch I lost two full work days. I am sure my boss is pissed at me.
It just really kills me to think that a 2 cent pin that should have been made of hardened steel caused all this. If there was ever a reason for a part recall, I am sure this should be one.
Anyway, got part on order. I have to somehow go to work this weekend in rental car and get my car to start. I guess I can just drill down the pin and start it so I can move it home to work on it.
A 2 cent pin that failed cost me well over 1K if you look at lost time at work, rental car, replacement part, etc.
Luckily I still love my car.

If you do the fix as described you do not have to replace anything. No cost at all, of course if you want to possibly do the fix again in the future you can replace the part and wait for it to fail again.
Sorry to hear of your bad luck Nexxus. So far my XF limited 2005 roadster has not shown the sticky key syndrome. Whe i turn the key to the on position it turn s smoothly and then with what seems to be normal pressure on to the start mode...I wish there was a way to figure out if the pin fix has been done. If anyone has any ideas of how to check please let me know. Have a great weekend...
I am just going to replace the sleeve with the pin issue. It's only a hundred dollar part. If it breaks again, I am going to engineer a dam single push switch and sell it to all Crossfire owners.

What you are missing is that we have ANOTHER member who isn't taking a little time to learn what we have ALL learned: You just take the spring and "triangle thingy" out and throw them away - problem solved forever.
Yes, but that also will cause the steering wheel to not lock into place when your key is in the off position. There is a VERY important reason for that to lock, and it is not in case your car rolls down a hill. If you ever need towed, or are towed by accident they can seriously damage your car if the steering wheel is not locked. If that pin does not prevent that, then what is the purpose of the pin?

Ok, lets take a vote. I am an engineer working for a company in Dallas. After I get the new sleeve, and if I can reverse it quickly, how many people would buy a replacement electrical single button starter? It would work like this: Get in car, with original key fob. Press the start button and hold for 1 sec, car starts. To simply put car in position 2 or 3 like a key, with engine off press button once once and release for position 2, twice for position 3. To turn off car, simply push button and hold for 1 second. If driving and really need to kill car, hold button for 3 seconds.
I do not know how much I can fabricate one for, but if there is enough desire I can see what I can do for a low price replacement, but it MUST match current safety regs, which I will have to study up on.

I would suggest that the towing instructions in the owners handbook be read.
The best way to move a disabled vehicle is a flat bed tow truck or damage to the body and mechanics of the vehicle will result if not done properly.

theres a video on youtube of a guy who did push button start but still gotta turn the key so thats weak. anyways, i did the fix a few days ago and seriously the thing turns over better than i ever remember, had the car for 6 years now. the pieces removed seriously should never been there in the first place.
