Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Hi guys,
I am Polish, and unfortunately caught me exactly the problem. The key, don't turn the ignition. I did everything according to the instructions v5, however, for I can not move the locking pin. Drilling does not give advice ... please inquire something ... This metal is so strong that nothing can move him.

Luck - yes. Repeatable - maybe , maybe not.... may be worth a try to do it in the morning when it is cooler and remember don't take the key out if it works! I also had a hard time trying to get the tumbler out so I left it in this time and it saved a step - no problems.
Pietia1990...have you tried Reliableron's above trick to get the key to move?
If it works you can skip drilling.
Good luck.

I tried google translate maybe this helps:
ylko uwaga - Zrobiłem mój trzeci poniedziałek i było zamknięte . Że znalazłem dwa z trzech robiłem byłeś stickiest kiedy to było gorąco . Jedynym Zrobiłem ten weekend siedziałem w słońcu z okien górę. Otworzyłem drzwi, a potem zabrał moją silikonowy lubrykant i umieścić go w lodówce przez pół godziny , spryskane go i dostał klucz odwrócił .

Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Hi...I'm a new forum member and recent purchaser of a 2005 Crossfire Roadster Limited (23,000 miles - Sapphire Silver Blue Metallic) and have been reviewing the forum for issues/repairs, preventative maintenance. I've noticed some slight sticking with the key and have reviewed the procedure for modifying the old assembly. I've found a new lock assembly for $116 (Mercedes OEM Part 2024600904)
Would I be correct in understanding the new OEM housings currently being sold don't have the issue that I believe was resolved with the 2007/2008 models? I'd prefer to replace the lock housing assembly then modify and remove the locking pin in the existing one. Is it easy to swap the tumbler and black cap? Does the cap come with the new assembly or does someone know the part number? Also, if there's anyone experienced in this fix in the Atlanta area, I'd be happy to pay them for the sticky key fix.
Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Ala_xfire - Linville, AL is within my definition of near Atlanta. Does it make sense to replace the housing with a new OEM one? I'd don't mind spending the money for the housing. I'd like to keep it as close to original as possible (with the exception of the radio that I'll be upgrading to a silver Kenwood marine radio next week. I'll message you directly so we can coordinate my coming out to Linville when it's convenient for you.

Um, George - it looks to me like he is drilling thru the collar that has the bolt in it - am I right?
Maybe if he removes the collar and THEN drills it? Do you agree?

I recall some posts that reported the brand new part also has the pin and spring so if you did buy new take the cover off to see.
Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
I'm going to assume the pin is there. Hopefully this is a newer designed version used in the later production year runs that I understand didn't have this issue. Either way, I would expect to not have to worry about the key sticking for 5-10 more years.

If you remove the pin and spring it won't ever stick.
