Has anyone replaced the inside dust filter or air filter, where is it and how do I replace it?

The new filter will be a tight fit. It won't look as wide as the original. Just work it into the hole and it will go. I had trouble myself and wondered if I had the right filter.

Anyone experience any strange smell on starting their HVAC system??

I replaced my filter a few weeks ago thinking that was it, I used a carbon filter (supposed to cut down on smells) and the same problem is still there. After it runs for a few minutes, it is fine again - no smell, but at startup, there is a musty smell. Any ideas??

Did something crawl in there and die maybe?

LMAO, no I don't think so, it is a musty, almost mildewey (sp haha) smell.

If it was something dead, I do not think it would go away so quickly after turning on the air.

Pickles is a good description, and I have searched a little bit about this, was hoping the carbon filter would help.

Has anyone come up with any solutions??

I used to get that but it went away.... not sure what it is. Sometimes I like to hit the reset button when I turn the car off and let the fan blow the remaining cool air out of the system. If you let that cool air stay in there and start the car up again in a few hours (after the car has been sitting in a garage or sun) the first breath of air can be musty. I like to turn the AC off early while driving the car and let the vent blow all the air out of the system before storing the car for a long time. Or I will hit the reset button and let it blow everything out automatically. You have to keep the system dry or it will stink up the car. Some people are amazed at that feature in our car.

Thanks for the post and the pictures that were included. I am new to the forum and just picked up a car 4 weeks ago.

This is why this forum is an excellent source of information.

Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Jake80

Try spraying lysol or another anti bac. spray into the induction port near the top of your hood. While your spraying turn on the car fan so it cycles it throughout the system. You will need to clean the inside of your windows but it will kill any mold in the vents and leave a nice smell behind.

I always buy winter beaters and always do this to the cars with smelly vents. Works great.
