Radio removal
After trying to eliminate vinegar smell with blasts of Ozium spray, I have caused the radio to have problemos with crackling sounds. I would like to clean terminals, etc. on radio but do not know how big a deal it is to 'remove the radio/cd'...My a/c vinegar smell continues; now, much more concerned about the radio.
Anyone done this or replaced stereo, etc.?
Thanks...

Has anyone replaced the radio? ROFL! I think I'm the ONLY one here who has NOT replaced the factory radio.
See those slits in the corners of the radio? Insert your radio removal tools and they will lock in place, then pull the radio out using said tools.
Don't have radio removal tools? Walmart sells them, I think Advance Auto does as well.
I got mine at WalMart for about $4. They dont' say "Crossfire" on them and don't ask for "Crossfire" ... anything. You'll only get a blank stare.
Mine are marketed by "Scosche" and say on them:
Ford & Import
DIN Radio
REMOVAL TOOL
"Ford - Mercury - VW - Audi
Mazda - Porsche - Saab"
DT1
I think "DT1" is the part number. Look in the car audio aisle at WalMart.

I haven't changed mine out. In fact, I just put in a used 05 in mine and replaced my original 04 radio. I had the LEC screeen in my 04 and it was hard to see during the day. The newer cars had the LCD - which is much better to read in the day and is backlite at night. I like stock and the sound is fine for me. Also, I'm buying an FM MP3 transmitter (a good one) to play all my digital music on. No reason for an upgrade ... at least not for now.
Radio removal and switch out is easy with the tools. 5 minute job max.....

Just too easy picked up exactly the tool you suggested...so now I can yank out Infinity radio with no alarms going off; clean terminals and re-install??....or does all hell happen when I take it out...?
Slightly paranoid after reading directions (never read directions!?) about some radios are "Code Protected"....also radio is getting worse on sound so my tiiming is good...if I have blown up radio all together...suggestions on an easy replacement with cd that fits cfire well?

Look closely at the catch on the plastic connecter and make sure you are pinching and pulling correctly. Everything else was plug and play............and very easy.

Many thanks....
Just make sure you slide the tools in the correct way (they should catch), pull it out straight (should slide easily), unplug the connectors and then clean the terminals.
Not sure how they could have gotten moisture but its good to check them.
Hope it works and clears up your issues.

ok if you don't mind, all came out great but going back in radio rides free and is not reaching a place where I can then REMOVE the right/left pull tools...any trick to sliding it back in for a good lock...and then I assume an easy removal of pulls?
You kinda got it backwards.... You remove the tools while the radio is out,and slide it back in WITHOUT the tools.
Look on the sides of the radio for plastic tabs that you push on, this will release the tool. I can't remember excaclty, but if you look, you'll see how the tabs are locked onto the tools.
Release the tools, take them out and slide the radio in until it locks in place.

GAPE ! GEESH!...they sure don't tell ya this on the package...Great news is that did take a drive this evening (immediate test drives the best part of any tinkering) and I happily fixed the radio weirdness with a cleaning...also got the radio 'locked in' ... so all works great with two big silver hoops coming out of radio bottom...
...will re-do/fix tomorrow and I really appreciate your help and patience.
Regarding the vinegar smells -
First - Did you use a charcoal filter when replacing the air filter?
Second - have you looked under the plastic cowl cover that the wipers come out of? It cover the water drains and the cabin air inlet and it can become clogged with leaves and bits that will stagnate and maybe smell like vinegar. There is a direct connection from the area under the cowl to the cabin filter.
For the procedure check out this link:
