Default RCM Info

Hello,
I bought a back up RCM on Amazon for $118.00 RY1562 (JD192Z-12V) Standard Brand
I later found out it was a knock off. It does have good reviews, so i gave it a shot.
Has anyone had good luck with this model or should I return it for a OEM unit?
I'm considering having the original rebuilt as Preventive Maintenance.
Thank you in advance for any feedback, love the forum.

Joe

IMO, keep what you have and have TJ rebuild the original as a spare. He makes them better than OEM.

You need to carry a spare as insurance and peace of mind, so get the old one repaired and keep the new one. I have not heard of troubles with replacement parts. It was the OEM ones that started failing because of poor soldering. Burnt contacts is the other common issue and that seems to be because some of the circuits use relays that are not of high enough duty for the currents and usage involved, that would be the air pump and engine relays.
The problem with the relays was known to Mercedes owners and the problem solved before the Crossfire hit the road.

That's exactly what I did. TJ refurbished my original a month ago and did the "Me so horny" mod on it, too. My original is back in the car working great. I had purchased an RCM off of amazon and it worked great, too. But it's my spare, now.

The more time that I spend reading here on the forum about folks with various problems, the more I think one of the first things to do is to swap out the RCM and eliminate that from consideration.....

FYI!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS PARTICULAR RCM!!!
CHEAP COPY!!! Relays are CHEAP! Pins are smaller diameter and DO NOT make good connection to the car's connectors.
I can replace the relays but can't do anything about the smaller pins. If you have this RCM I would slightly bend the pins so that they make better contact in the car's connectors.
You've been warned!

TJ, I'm curious. If MB knew about the problems associated with the RCM used in our xfires did they fix it and if so could this mod be adapted? It looks like many of the components could be replaced with more modern relays integrated with smd's mounted on a PC.

DJ does not check in here often. But the answers to your questions have been known for years. The RCM used in the Crossfire was used in the SLK320, SLK32 and I-dont-know-how-many others. It's a simple failure of an inexpensive module and their fix was easy: Replace the module.

ANd as long as it was Mercedes only, it was no big deal. Any MB dealer service department that had a problem diagnosing electrical issues (and all of them did, 'mechanics' and "techs" are not trained in electrical diagnosis) could reach out to MB and get help. But the problem is, our cars have no such support - no Chrysler dealer knows anything about them. THAT is the problem, dealers can't fix anything because they have no support. Im sure that IF you could get an MB garage to look at the car, they'd recognize what is going on since they've seen it before.

It's a cheap part, readily available and the fact you can get RCMs from several sources proves that there are TONS more cars out there other than the Crossfire that need these. My Ford Ranger cost me almost $1,000 for a new fuel pump and tow to the dealer, it is what it is. A $150 module is no big deal.

I need to buy a new RCM to replace the original A1705450305 of my Crossfire. While It is still going good even if, 10 Years ago, I had to resolder it after a mystery no start and later on, to change the air pump relay.

I want to keep it has my spare, in the trunk of the car as soon the new one will be home. So, the new one will be the one I will use until it fail . . . If it will !

I want to be sure to get the best quality and not a cheenese muck off. FCP has the best warranty, even if the price is more than some other supplier.

Which source or brand do You recommended ?

Daniel

Who sell Genuine Mercedes online, except Mercedes dealers ? Who sell OE/OEM one that are real one . . . many sellers use those term and sell muck off online.

Since some, or most OE/OEM do not have Genuine Mercedes number and identification, they are hard to recognize. I want to be sure when I order that I will get a real "Genuine" or a real "OEM" at least.
