The gas tank is a sealed unit except for the fuel level sensor which can be removed.
You can see the fuel filler tube in the trunk by removing the black trunk liner on the side where the filler tube is. You can take this out by removing the black fasteners that hold it in place. You do not have to remove the side panel above it as the Service Manual says.
I assume you are looking for leaks.

Remove the centre pin in the black retainers and then remove the black retainer and then carefully pull the panel down and away from the roof side panels.

Did you check all the hoses around the fuel pump and filter? That is easily accessible when the car is on a lift, you only have to remove a plastic access panel.

Just pull the centre pin straight out and then pull the main pin straight out.
Leakage outside the car often leaves tell tale signs on the driveway. Go at it slowly and maybe save time in the end.

hi , the fuel gauge hasn't on dash gone down so i assume no petrol leak and also no signs of petrol on the ground, just going to get into the boot area of petrol tank to make sure all is well in that area , the smell of fuel in cabin has only happened since i filled up with fuel until to the max clicks to say its full,
