Smile Replacement Stereo

Hi,
I have bought a new stereo and cannot fit it cuz i dont know what wiring harness to use. People have mention rhe scorche but that doesnt use the amp. I want a harness that will plug my aftermarket stereo in and use the standard amp etc. I have found a harnes called metra 70-1786 intergrated amp harness that has rca connections aswell. Is this correct? I do not know anything about wiring etc so want plug an play :-) can anybody let me know what they used to install a stereo while running through the amp. If it means matching wires etc i cant do it so is there anybody near weston super mare. If they are is anyone interested in fitting my stereo? Ill pay upto 100 pound as a thank you :-)
Hope therr is someone who can advise :-)

Thanks everyone :-)

Shame you live sofar away. I would have helped you. Would it be possible to tell us the make of new ICE and what is currently in your XF. Posting pics of the back of new ICE and Any plugs/leads that came with it would be useful. If you still have the original XF radio should be a pretty simple job as the amp should take a speaker feed and all you really need is a feed to switch the amp on usually a blue/white wire IIRC.

I know for my install i did not need RCAs. The harness I bought came with a remote wire and I wired the aftermarket radio into that. Scochse part # VW01B should be what you need.

Hi

Just downloaded an installation manual for your stereo, is it also capable of showing video on its lcd screen? It would appear if all your sony wiring is intact that you only need to make 2 connections extra and then just check if you need to swap the yellow and red wires over depending on whether the radio switches off when you take the keys out. the first wire to find is the amp switching wire which is a blue and white striped one which is not connected to the iso block with the yellow, red , black, blue and orange wires. Looking at a wiring diagram for the xf stereo you may be lucky and the blue power aerial wire may trigger the amp. worth a try first if not then you will have to cut the blue wire in the middle between both connectors and crimp on a male and female crimp so that you can rejoin later on if need be. Try to use the same as on the blue and white striped lead as it will make the job easier remember to put the same end as on the b/w striped on the lead coming from the back of the stereo and the opppsite end on the wire going to the iso block. Join the b/w stripped to the blue wire that's your amp switch connected.
Next the difficult part if you are using the video function? We need to find the handbrake switch cable. At the moment I am unable to help on this but I am planning to get a dvd player installed next week when my XF comes back from the paint shop. So should be able to give more advice then. It may in your case be as easy as joining the light green wire to a suitable earthing point. Although I can't be 100% sure. However it worked on my Xf when it had a pioneer Avic system fitted. Cool system but just didn't look right in the dash and I wanted to use the HVAC.

Hope this helps a little.
look here for the pin outs in the iso block

Hi,

I have attached photos of the stereo as requested. Thanks for the instructs below. Do i need a harness or are the refereing to cuting the wires and matching up? :-) This probably sounds easy to you but to me unfortunately its more loke rocket science lol. Ask me to write a computer program and yeah eeeaaassssyyyyy but ask me to connect wires together is like asking a kid to work out particle physics when he has just learnt 123 lol bloody useless lmao he he
Anyhow thanks for your time an effort. Its nice to know that there are people out there willing to help :-)
Cheers

Looking at you loom I would say we may just be looking at a straight plug n play situation. The only thing we probably need is a fakra adaptor for the aerial.

This is the type I needed

Audi/BMW/Ford/VW/Vauxhall Fakra Aerial Adaptor PC5-100 | eBay

It's just such a shame you are so far away or I'd do it for you.

Just got the new ice out of the loft which I plan to fit when the XF's back from have the wheels refurbed and a bit of paint done. I just hooked up the loom to my test rig and everything worked fine. As regards video all I did was to earth the handbrake wire and I can have pics on the move. Although I would never do this as that's illegal. LOL. I am hols this coming week so if you wanted to come up we could sort it for you. Just don't say you come will F1 is on thou.
