Question Crossfire Electric issues/Garage recommend Please - South Wales?

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonable price/trustful garage that can fix issues with Chrysler crossfires in South Wales (based near Cwmbran/Newport). I am having issues with my Crossfire and it appear that its having an electronic fault to do with the transmission. I know there is a Chrysler in Cardiff but that is a bit further than I would like to go, also because money is very tight going directly to Chrysler is likely to be a very expensive option. Any advice would be welcome, Thanks.

Justin

It sounds like its going into limp mode Justin, the computer is detecting a problem and putting the car into 'get you home' mode.

It probably needs to go on the diagnostics gear to find the fault, but there may be a way of reading the codes yourself, someone on here might know how to get the car to show the fault codes via flashing lights on the dash for example.

If I stop the car, turn the engine on and off, then try to go again all the light go off and it can drive for a while before the same issues happen again. Its a very strange thing and when its not doing these issues, it seems to drive perfect with no issue I could think of at all....

Hope that helps. Thanks
You need the fault codes read, the dash lights do not flash to tell you the troubles. You need to use an OBDll scanner. With the codes we can tell you the problem solution most likely.

wondered how you were getting on with the problem mate, sounds like it might be worth a call to the breaker in the previous thread to see if you can grab a second hand ECU.

You had the car in limp mode, which is an indication of a transmission fault, you read the codes and it says transmission speed sensor fault and the garage says it has to do with the ABS brake system. Hmm!
I'd say you had better be careful with what is done here or they might take you for an expensive ride before your car is on the road again.

I have had this on a Chrysler 300 which has a very similar transmission and it was a faulty solenoid in the tranny. The car would work fine when it was restarted every time for a few days then the limp mode became permanent.

My money is on the speed sensor which is on the hydraulic/electrical plate assembly.

This does sound similar to a fault I had years ago with completely different car a Toyota MR2 Turbo import which was fitted with traction control.

Basically the ABS and traction control was all linked together on that vehicle and when the traction control came in it was supposed to brake the spinning wheel and cut power to the engine, mine had an intermittent fault causing the car to slow to a crawl and the more you tried to accelerate the more the brakes came on and the engine power cut back along with the illumination of various warning lights.

Its a long time ago now but i think that was traced to an ABS fault

The error code as I mentioned previously = speed sensor circuit malfunction so its not transmission fault and to be honest there is zero indication there is anything wrong the transmission as I have said previously the car works perfectly before the warning lights come on. And also couldn't be speed sensor as like I said that is the part they replaced recently (but didn't fix the issue) so I am sure it is definitely something to do with ABS malfunctioning and fact all the warning lights that come on are braking system related I think backs up that theory. Obviously could be several things in that category but anyway like I said in previous post, the garage is going to arrange to "borrow this part" from mercedes soon and fit it to my car and see if that does resolve the issue. If it does then its defiantly that and then I will just need to arrange to get the part for as cheap as possible! So just have to wait and see I guess...
The code you mention is definitely a transmission code and not a wheel speed code.
If a wheel speed sensor went on the blink then I could see the ABS/traction control stepping in to correct what it felt was a loss of grip in one wheel.
I guess its too late now but I would have thought that a rotor would have felt much hotter when compared to the rest of the rotors if it had been braking all the time or more often.
Other parts that can cause the ABS to operate when it should not be are the sensors that determine which way the car is facing and which way the car should be facing, acceleration monitors, yaw sensors and the like of which I have absolutely no idea about.
The code is for a faulty part inside the transmission.
The wheel speed indicator is something like this:
